    Don't rush,
Wait a little longer Toyota may buy it back for 1.5 x KBB :D

I know quit a few guys that are kicking themselves in the Ash for not waiting a year longer, they got 7K for a trade where they could have gotten 14K at buyback

I voted for go for it, but it's your choice. I'd look at it as an investment in the future. Do you have a gf/fiancee? Planning on kids? Want to keep the truck until then? Or be able to take more people with you when you offroad?

I went with the 4x4 DC in the first place because I have a wife and kids so I required full sized back seats, and knew I wanted to offroad. If you're going to be paying for it for a few years regardless of if you keep or trade, then you might as well have what you need.

Definitely get the 4x4! I'd go for the newer one with less mileage on it. :)

    Decisions decisions...

I've thought about it alot and I think I've decided to keep my current Taco and look for a better deal on a TRD O/R with lower mileage. I'm in no rush and I know that whatever I have by the end of this year I will have for a very long time. I'm not gonna rush myself this time.

The good thing is I know exactly what I want. I'm not even considering anything other than a Taco at this point, I'm sure I will be able to find what I want.

you are makning the right decision man. you know what ya want, so thats good. plus, you'll probably enjoy having the locker as opposed to haveing 4x4 without the locker.

Be careful makin' fun of TJ Hooker... He has friends like Chuck Norris. Chuck doesn't let friends take crap unless he's dishing it out. TJ Hooker takes a lot of crop from Chuck Norris...

    ...and he likes it.

I love having a double cab to carry stuff in the back seat, but that also means I get stuck driving my buddies around.

I found another truck. The other two I talked about where in Atlanta (6 hour minimum drive away), this truck is in Daytona (roughly an hour away).

Its a Silver '06 DC, TRD Off Road, ARE Camper top (which I would sell), good condition. Its only got 27,000 miles (3,000 less than my truck) and they want $17K for it. The only thing wrong is that its a Prerunner. Which I could live with, and I could use the money from selling the camper top to get a winch... Argh. Very tempting.

Its a Short Bed. How much would that camper top be worth? I think its an ARE CX Series.

I am in your same situation. I really wanted a indigo blue or black 4x4. When I purchased my taco I wasn't sure I could swing such a big payment so I passed on the 4x4. I also settled for silver and the ease of keeping it clean. Big mistake because I am chomping at the bit to buy what I really wanted, now that my financial situation has improved. I could trade in my truck since I owe exactly what its worth. So when I was sitting in the war room doing battle on the numbers for a new taco or tundra I started thinking about the warranty I paid for and my perfect service record. All the love I have put into my truck and how it just gets wiped away. sure they will get a better price when they sell it but you loose all of that value. I love my 2nd choice taco more than I thought. Needless to say I got up and told them I would be back when I was done paying off my current truck. She's a keeper. When I got back in it I rubbed the dash a little and told her "phew. That was close, I almost lost you" Only 28 more payments left till I can get her a baby sister. I don't know if that helps you out at all.
The bright side is no matter what you do you will have the best truck on the market. Good luck with your decision.

Interestingly, I traded a '00 Jeep Wrangler for my regular cab Taco back in March, one of the best automotive decisions I've ever made IMHO. The Wrangler handled poorly and sucked gas like crazy, especially in the winter. It had lousy ergonomics and virtually zip for cargo-hauling capacity. I had numerous minor mechanical problems with it, it ate brakes like they were Pop-Tarts, and just basically was a pain-in-the-ass. Only things I can say for it is that it looked kinda cool and was good in a tight spot, i.e., making u-turns, parallel parking, or maneuvering off-road. But the regular cab Taco is just about as good in those respects, and vastly superior in all others.

On the subject of trading the Pre-runner for a DC, I'm personally not fond of the looks of an access or double-cab. A regular cab is what God intended a truck to look like. But I do understand that for those who need to use the Taco as a family sedan, it's the only way to go. Me being an old single guy, it's usually just me and occasionally the girl-friend or a single passenger, so the reg cab works great. And on the rare occasion when I need to haul passengers, we pile into the Prius and hope that the road conditions aren't too awful.:p
