I"m currently deployed to Afghanistan and I'm considering selling my 06 tacoma before I get home to get a 2013/14 Baja or Off Road DCSB. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm looking to get about 16k out of my 06 DCSB with a 6SMT. Really just trying to figure out if it's worth the investment as the 06 has been paid off for a few years now and I know the baja and the off road will run me up to 32k through USAA's new car finder.

Just buy parts for your truck as long as it runs good. You could get the performance and looks stuff for like 4k including wheels and tires. And then get a new stereo for 2k. 6k and you will be as happy as a baja owner.

It depends how you are. I would rather build my own stuff.

Yea I've got the aftermarket stereo with dvd and navigation already. I bought that after my last deployment. the truck runs great and all, just thinking I may want something new since I've had this truck for almost 7 years now. Don't get me wrong, if I could afford two tacomas or a tacoma and a tundra I'd keep this truck and get a new one. That baja looks amazing and seems like it's a good deal with the suspension and the tires already packaged together. With USAA's pricing it knocks the cost down to just over 32k which is reasonable I believe. but then again I paid 21k in 06 for a DCSB 4x4 TRD Sport and I thought that was a lot of money back then.

I'd wait and see what they have to offer in 2015. It seems there may be some significant changes coming soon. Your 06 isn't much different than my fully loaded '12 with JBL/Entune in the scheme of things. This is my first Toyota and first truck and at this point in time I kinda wish I would've looked at the older Tacomas near your year.. I'd be paying a lot less per month and it's basically the same truck.

Well the price difference between used and new is really not that much, as most used ones in my qualifications that I wanted were only 5k cheaper than new. so for peace of mine i just bought new as these trucks seem to hold their value ridiculously well

    Too few to list.
If there's nothing wrong with your 06, I'd say wait. I feel that Toyota is getting ready for the new MPG requirements. I'm part of a survey panel Toyota offers and they keep sending and asking questions about what people would like to see or offered in a Tacoma, like/dislikes, etc... They already implemented some of those changes with entune. At the very least, dual vvti for the Tacoma but my guess is direct injection engines.

I actually like the older ones better. Less electronic stuff to fail. I've specifically stuck to 05's just so I don't have to worry about TPMS sensors. On my 3rd one. But when the third gens come out if the mileage gain is huge and the truck doesn't grow much I'll probably buy one after they've been out a while.

Good point. My qualifications would put a truck at $10k-$12k less than new after learning about how little changes there were and how solid these trucks are.
