Excellent decision :thumbsup::thumbsup:. If it’s not broken why fix . Tacomas are not immune to issues .

The OP wants an AC with MT, the only available one in the US is the Sport.

    I was being sarcastic...

However, even though you listed the only possible configuration available, Im still surprised no one mentioned the locker...

OP, I’d keep the Ram, useful truck to have. I’d consider a 2014 or older RC 5 speed MT if that might work for you. I love my ‘05. The 6MT is nice too but I’d definitely go DCSB OffRoad over AC sport if going 6MT. The bed is small either way and if you’re forced to have a back seat it really should be a usable one. Unless you’re committed to a rear seat delete or you really love that hood scoop.

SR5 is a good value trim but it’s no longer an option for MT.

I’m super tempted to add a diesel Ram to the stable.

A few points from a guy who’s owned V8 full size and midsized V6
    1. The Tacoma will never, ever, ever push you back into your seat like those trucks. Not even close.
    2. That being said, truck isn’t slow. It’s very much acceptable, and sometimes even quick. Just not fast
    3. You can’t get a manual SR5 ACLB. Only a TRD sport in the US.
    4. Interior is much, much smaller than a full-size. Feels like a car more than a truck. Floors are really high.
    5. Manual is super fun.
    6. Auto isn’t bad. People greatly exaggerate how bad they are. They’re a typical, 6 speed, torque converter auto box from the mid 2010s.

Off topic, but the baby dmax is a much, much nicer motor than the ecodiesel. Put 5000km on an ecodiesel and 15k on the baby dmax. Love that motor. 35+ mpg too.

    This is a great description.

When I first got in the Tacoma, I felt this, but couldnt quite describe it. But thats it Maverick, you nailed it. And you will notice it coming from full size for sure.

I’m pretty sure it’s a statistic too, if you park a colarado and a Tacoma side by side, you’ll see it.

I went from a full size 1500 4 dr Silverado 113K (my 2nd) to a 22 DCSB SR5. I downsized to the Toyota for a retirement present, reliability and small vehicle to get to my rural hunting camp in Maine. Everyone has their own reasons for getting another vehicle and downsizing etc. I don't care about v8 power anymore. The only thing I tow is my ATV trailer 200 miles to my hunting camp 2x a year. I'm 6'5 270 and fit pretty good with no issues (seat jackers added) in my new truck. Enjoy the day

No, you won't get the advertised numbers. Due to the pseudo Atkinson cycle you won't get 20 on the highway...unless you stay under 65 and never hit a hill. It truly is a marvel of tuned for govt emissions testing. It barely makes enough power to maintain speed on the highway. Any headwind or mole hill will seem like you dropped anchor.

    Don't do it.

After driving almost 15k since I got my 22' DCSB OR 6mt. I do get 21-24 MPG average for my 70-mile commute, and about 20% city and 80% highway. No mods, just as it came off the lot. Check out my fuel logs in my sig for all of my tanks.

I have never regretted anything about my truck. Just test drive each one to see what you like.

So if a bunch of owners in a forum dedicated to the vehicle you’re looking to potentially buy say don’t buy it, you should probably run. Everyone here is dissatisfied with it.

    A few.
I came from a 4th gen Ram 1500 Hemi crewcab 4x4 to my current Tacoma. Though its an auto I get 2-3 mpg better than I got with the Ram.

There’s so many variables to this (midsize vs full-size) truck topic, I’ve struggled with it for so long. Currently have two trucks. An 04 GMC Sierra and a 20 Tacoma DCSB. They couldn’t be more different as far as features.

I’ve wanted a Tacoma for years, before I even joined this forum 9 years ago. Pulled the trigger in early 2020, even then, I was hesitant. For some reason I just wasn’t completely happy about the truck. My main complaints were it’s low payload and lack of power. Still we bought it thinking we’d get used to it and that the trucks positives would win us over time.

Now rolling into 3rd year of ownership.
    Pro’s:
-Reliable (no issues but also it’s “new”)
-Small (easy to park/maneuver in city)
-Great Off-road (for being ifs and >32”tires)

    Cons:
    -No power (but driveable)
    -Low payload (squats)
    -Uptravel (nonexistent)
-Tiny (interior & bed runs out of room quick)

We still have the truck because I cannot bring myself to pay these ridiculous prices for a full size. Early 2020 we paid $36.5k for the Taco OR. I’d have to double (easily) that to step into a full size. The 04 Sierra is great but the extended cab (suicide doors) are a pain in the ass and it’s 2wd.

I know this doesn’t help but hopefully continues with your brainstorm process. If new trucks were being sold for MSRP… I have a feeling we’d be driving around in a Super Duty or F150.

They are if you are willing to travel. I don’t know about Fords but I can get you links to Ram dealerships who will order you a truck for below invoice price.
