Had an 08 sport that I loved, and got rid of it for a 4Runner, which I also love. But I recently bought a house and a truck would come in handy. I was wondering if the OR’s ( Iguess sports too) are still having the leaking issues and diff vibrations. I’m going to get a MT because when I did drive the auto it just sucked in my eyes, and with the new engine I feel the MT is a benefit. ANy help would be greatly appreciated....

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Do yourself a favor and drive one but I am not a fan of the 3rd gen. If I were you I would get myself a nice little utility trailer and roll on.

I saw that they some people were having water leakage through the back window. Also I guess some rear differential vibration or something.

No no the front diff vibrates. The rear diff makes a whining noise at certain speeds. Def get the 6MT though.

don't listen to the third gen haters. Mine is flawless and the long bed is great to have. MT is a solid tranny.

I have 33 k miles on my 19 sport with the MT , i absolutely love it .
Yes it clunks at times , yes it could use a little more power .
I’ve owned or was assigned at least a dozen manual vehicles in the
Last 5 decades , including a couple of bikes , and i will honestly tell you that everyone of them
Had its quirks . The taco will never be as smooth as a manual ultra expensive
European sedan . Its a truck a very capable fun truck , more so with the MT.

I took delivery of a 2021 OR MT a few days ago, and have no regrets. As long as your expectations are realistic, (shifting will NOT be like a VW GTI) you won't be disappointed. Yes, the Taco isn't perfect, but there's a reason for its popularity. There's limited risk to taking the plunge because you could easily sell it if you choose. Good luck!

My 08 MT had its clunky moments. Never bothered me. The nose dive thing must be a new Toyota addition because my 4Runner did it to until I upgraded the suspension. I’m torn because I do love the 4Runner, But the price I can get for it in my area with97k on it is pretty nuts and the loan on the Tacoma would be small. Was really just wondering if those issues had been resolved. Thanks for all the input people!

    +1.

I try and apply the 80/20 rule to vehicle ownership. If you’re only going to use the vehicle as a truck less than 20% of the time, then what else could possibly fill that need? A utility trailer will let you haul way more than a Tacoma’s bed can.

Honestly, if you're wanting it for "truck stuff" I would recommend a 90s beater with an 8ft bed and keep the 4runner. It would probably be cheaper to get a second vehicle than it would be to trade the 4runner and get a tacoma.

The real problem was the sudden loud noise under the hood when the right-most pedal was pushed down. Stay away from 3rd gen.

Great advice. I went from a V8 T4R to my Tacoma and the bed has come in handy, but so far I've only done a couple of things that I couldn't or wouldn't want to do with the 4R, and those could have easily been done with a utility trailer. That said, I don't regret getting my Tacoma one bit. Point being, don't try to rationalize your way into making a purchase - buy it if you want it and can afford it.
    Also solid advice.
