Will toyota every sell a competive diesel Tacoma ......only if the GM takes the chance they have announced and developers the market for one in midsize trucks. If theirs becomes a rousing success.. I don't expect Toyota to lead the way. They just wait for mouse traps to be made.....and if they sell and there is a market, they will make a better one.

This truck has been in the works for a while now. PPL can't really believe it was thrown together in a couple of years.. seriously? They only changed enough body wise as to do what was really a much needed update.. If you don't believe this, just look at the Camry.. And it's also been a top seller for years.. For me, if you get a new transmission and power plant, that's a huge change. Which the Camry didn't even get by the way.. Just chassis strengthening and body redesign..

I'm interested to see how the Taco actually does after all this hype. I'm actually thinking Toyota may not do as well as they thought.

BLASPHEMY! 2.5 Gen could never fail and/or lose sales to potential competitors. With talks of Jeep, Ford, and VW entering the midsize segment I don't think Toyota will have the same level of market dominance as shown over the last 10-15 years. American automakers have really stepped up their game since the 2008 economy crash, especially Ford. I haven't owned a big 3 in over 10 years, however I do live in the metro Detroit area so I tend to follow what they are up to. Every single ford owner I've talked to within the last 5 years have been extremely happy with their purchases. My Dad's 2009 F-150 just rolled 180k and it hasn't been back to dealer since new.

This is only good news for us. It means Toyota will only make the Tacoma better! Disk brakes, diesel, boxed frame, hood struts. They already have market dominance, they have no reason to make substantial changes to the Tacoma until someone threatens their position.

The silver looks good, but I like the gray best. I just wish the color keys door handles and side mirrors, which look more upscale to me, were offered on the Limited.

I agree with you on the chrome. Color keyed looks better.

not so much... toyota has been working on this for some time, and they did half ass it... they put relatively little money into the tacoma design team. it was frustrating for them as they wanted to do a lot more. and in turn, frustrating for us.

One can never have too many light bars.
I think comparing the tacoma and GM twins on initial quaility is the problem here. GM wins the JD power inital quality award all the time but it doesn't mean a whole lot if the vehicles encounter alot of issues with just 100K on them. Hindsight is 20/20 so i think the most accurate comparisons between these two trucks will occur 10 years from now. This is also true on wards 10 best engines of the year. You see way more American and German engines on there and way less toyota and other Japanese engines. But thats because they measure smoothness, power, torque and vibration when the engine is brand new. Now we all know that the tacoma would not rank well in any of those categories but one of the most important categories to consumers these days is reliability and amount of issues encountered. Which is something that Toyota has shown a distinct advantage in.

Many people don't keep their cars for nearly that long. For me I lease my vehicles. I've never had more than 30k miles on a vehicle. So I don't really care how it does at 100k. I care how it does brand new.

Yes, I realize that resale value is based somewhat on reliability. And better resale value should mean better residual values in a lease (i.e. lower lease payments). But somehow it doesn't seem to translate that way. You would think that cars that hold their value better offer the best lease deals, but I hardly find that at all.

I took both of the twins for a test drive before putting down my Tacoma deposit. There's a lot positive that I had to say, but 2 or 3 serious negatives. The other thing that I noticed was the fit quality: both outside and inside there were a few things that were off-kilter, and even the hood skin was poorly rolled over to the inside.

I think this is the first white DCSB Off-Road I have seen. It looks good, but that may be partially because you can't see the grill in this picture.

More competition is great unless your favorite model gets canceled (ask the Ranger fans). I don't think that will happen to Toyota, so I hope there's some good competition. I hope to buy a 2016, so any improvements beyond what they've already done won't help me, but it's good for those who buy later.
