While I shared your concern at first, the plastic tabs have held up perfectly since I put the tailgate on years ago. I guess it's because they're only holding the tailgate alignment, and not weight.

    Hi Petre-

I just responded to your PM. Just to clarify, the order was submitted to the machine shop last week and they should be ready next week. (Usually takes ~2 weeks.) As soon as they're ready I'll ship them out and give you (all) a tracking number.

    Thanks-
    -Justus

Wow! Just got word from the machine shop that the tailgates are complete and will be ready for pickup this afternoon! I asked them to rush them so I could pack over the weekend and ship on Monday, and they did.

Folks, please get in the remaining balances so I can get these on their way to you right away. PM/email me if you need to know the remaining balance.

... and that is what I call "the power of mind" affecting the outcome of an event. All you have to do is wish hard and pay the balance on time. The product will be yours before you know it. Now let us wish they got it right. LOL

    Thank you Justus.

When I first bought my 2014 Tacoma and then read here that a guy had two fat-ass friends sit on his tailgate and bend it ........ bummed me right out. Didn't want to worry about the damn thing bending when myself (240 lbs) and anyone else was sitting on it.

Then I found Justus's original thread but he was no longer providing the tailgate reinforcements. But he's back and he does very good jod of providing a much needed product.

I just finished installing the reinforcement and wanted to provide feedback:

#1. I was amazed at how well/tight the reinforcement fit my Tacoma.
#2. Make sure you have a good sharp bit for drilling hard steel.
#3. Primed and painted the side which fits against the tailgate.
#4. Herculined the side open to the truck bed.
#5. Adjustment of the hinges and catches on the tailgate was not required.
#6. Justus did precisely what he said he would do and was easy to work with.
#7. It would be nice to have the holes pre-drilled.
#8. I have an ARE topper on my Tacoma and the reinforcement did not interfere with it's closure or position.

Thank you Justus for all of your efforts. Job well done Bud!!

    Poncho & Justus,

Do you guys have some good advice on how to properly align and mark the screw holes on the plate? I was thinking about laying the plastic cover over it and marking it that way? Any better advice on that part of the project from you guys with the experience?

I test fit the reinforcement and laid the original tailgate cover on the top of the reinforcement.

I then insured that the reinforcement latch cutouts were evenly/correctly placed at the tailgate latch locations. I marked both sides of the reinforcement where the original cover was properly positioned.

I removed the reinforcement from the tailgate and placed the original tailgate cover according to the latches and the alignment marks I made on to the reinforcement. I used Duct Tape to secure the original cover to the reinforcement in the correct position and drilled the holes. Make sure to use a punch to pilot the drill location before drilling.

The above worked for me ...... good luck.

I think ponchosportal answered the measurement question. Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. If you're local you're welcome to come take a look at one.

    $150 for pickup.

Wow, that looks great! I assume by the Herculiner that you haven't kept the stock plastic?

Do you still have any? If so, how many?

Did you ever find a cheaper way to ship to Fairbanks?

I may be interested in 2(?) If I did get 2, could we combine them to save on shipping?

    Thank you.

I did not replace the plastic as I wanted a flat surface for cooking, working, etc. while out fishing and camping. I will retain the plastic for what reason I know not now! LOL

    Poncho,

Thanks for answering the fitment question in detail! Good job, yours looks great! What kind of coating/liner did you use on the tailgate? Are satisfied with the coating so far? I'm wanting to use a good and tough liner/coating. If yours is holding up well, then that's what I'll use.

I used the Herculiner brand product which was expensive ...... maybe $30 a quart @ NAPA. However the stuff really is amazing!! It bonded to the cleaned metal like no tomorrow. One quart did two coats on the bed-side and I am convinced it will provide many years of abuse. It leaves a semi-rough surface as the material is a strong rubber coating with rubber pieces in the mix. It does not come off on your clothes but on raw skin will feel quite rough. Makes sure you coat the edges to insure a tight bond at the edge of the plate. I read here about a guy who left about an inch free on the ebges for appearance and he said he wished he coated fully to the edges.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
