I saw some talk a while back about Third Gen Tacomas smoking, knocking, and acting stupid when the truck was on a steep uphill climb.

But I haven't noticed anything about it since.

I'm assuming that it's oil puking up from the crankcase vent into the intake and swamping the motor.. but that is totally speculation on my part.

So, Whatever became of that? Has anybody seen one do it? Do they all do it? Is there a fix? Did Toyota make any changes to the '18 model to fix this?

My '17 doesn't get wheeled hard, so I haven't had any issues. But if there's a fix that will keep me from bending my rods by hydrolocking on my own oil I would sure like to hear about it.

    Anybody?

I've been up some pretty steep climbs recently and haven't any issues. However, I believe this was happening to guys who were climbing steep inclines without any chance for the truck to settle/level out.

189 views and nobody has seen this happen, and nobody knows about a fix?

Well, that tells me that it's not something I need to worry about.

For those that didn't know or remember, there was a report of a truck climbing a steep uphill and it suddenly lost power, started smoking, and knocking. After backing down off the incline, it was back to normal.
The next day, another third gen did the same thing on the same hill.

I never heard any more about it after that. This was probably a year ago.

I'll bump this thread again in a week or so to see if anybody tosses any info out...

    Thanks, guys!

Someone just did a recent update on that issue after they got the Truck back from the Dealer, think it had fouled plugs and the cause was an oil passage but don't think there was any resolution.

Why bump the thread? Seriously, if it was a problem there would be a 379 page thread bashing Toyota and dealers for their ignorance and stupidity, like every problem.
I read the original post with interest. It was white smoke, not blue and it only happend in a very specific condition on a certain part of the slope. There was no damage.
Also, your thread title is clickbait man. Don't fool people with misleading title. That's not cool.
