I spent a couple days driving around in my buddy's 2nd gen. All-in-all, the trucks (compared to my 3rd gen) are more similar than they are different. Both V6 TRD Auto 4wd. I didn't find the 4.0 to be a "powerhouse", nor did I find the 2nd gen transmission amazing. Still felt underpowered and sluggish, at least compared to driving my F350, which burns twice the gas for half the distance, but positively roars with power. So all in all I was left with the impression that not much has changed with Tacomas.

However........there is one major improvement on the 3rd gen! I guess I was taking it for granted, but the interior is so much nicer on the 3rd gen. The 2nd gen interior looks pretty much "balls" after you've been spoiled by the new interior. I could not got back. I'll take the shifty transmission, and the smaller motor, just don't make me sit in that 2nd gen ghetto. :D
