"She said she clearly remembers putting the car in park..."

Yea she probably forgot to put it in park and is one of those people who blames everyone but herself.

I thought Toyota had the brake over ride deal installed on most or all new vehicles???

Another safety system that disables throttle while brakes are applied?

So she should have been at idle at most if it was working...

    Does anyone know?

She was probably in S mode. Put the transmission into Drive and too embarrassed to admit it. So she made up her claim.

The issue I have with this situation is they are implying that 2 unrelated systems failed completely? They claim the vehicle was both in Park and had the brakes applied? I don't buy that.

Did she have the car in gear and it surged? Maybe. Was it really both in park with brakes set and just jumped for no reason into a brick wall? I don't buy that.

My 2016 definitely lurches when I'm putting it in the garage from time to time, but never while in park.

What I think happened is right before putting in park it lurched forward. Mine does this too! When backing into the garage, I can be JUST riding the brake to come close to the wall and the truck does this surging with the engine that does cause the truck to lurch, I am still in gear however to be fair. But I am curious why the engine does this. I have heard it is the VVT or the cleaning cycle on the injectors? Either way, I think it could lead to a minor bump. Doubtful it would cause that much damage.

Are you turning the wheel while pulling into the garage?

I notice this also, when I'm backing it in and just trying to nudge it.

They also mention the airbags didn't deploy... so that indicates what, either ANOTHER (3rd) major system failure... or that the impact was minimal enough that it didn't warrant the airbags deploying (<- my vote).

:notsure: Mine will lunge when cold sometimes, but not while in park. Once I put it in drive and it wouldn't move till i cycled back to park then drive.

Considering guys on here have had accidents I think up to 35 mph with airbags not deploying across all three gens, I would say the impact wasn't substantial enough.
