Hmmmm, interesting problem. I'm not going to speculate as to this woman's problem (or not) with her truck. But mine will surge forward when in gear, especially when cold. Never when in park, but I always pull the e-brake before putting it in park. It is hard to control when trying to crawl slowly, for instance, recently I was trying to park my truck in a tight spot, lightly controlling speed with the brakes and it surged forward and hit a metal bracket basket I was trying to NOT hit, and left nice little scratches on the bottom plastic bumper lip. That annoyed me to say the least. But I can't see it jumping forward so hard and do that much damage, but what do I know. It will be interesting to see what comes of the investigation though.

I have firsthand had my truck stay in Park after shifter was selected to 'D'. Hard to imagine the reverse happening tho, especially with a foot on the brake.

"foot was still on the break and the vehicle lunged forward "

    Buuuuuuuulllshiiiiiiiit!

Calling it now: vehicle was in drive and she hit the gas pedal. Just wait until the onboard computers get analyzed.

    This. 100%.

    --

Same crap as those "randomly accelerating Toyotas" that were all the rage a few years back. Same reason we now have to sign floor-mat disclaimers when buying new Toyotas. Idiots behind the steering wheel, doing what idiots do, then blaming the vehicle.

Another fun fact: if she was actually sure she had her foot on the brake (or "break," according to the geniuses that wrote this article) pedal, she'd have already filed a lawsuit to take Toyota for every penny they've got. The fact that she just wants Toyota to "investigate" tells me she's full of shit, and she knows it. Probably trying to pull a fast one on some insurance caveat crap where she won't be covered for her own screwups on her own vehicle.

yeah, when the lady hit the wall, a screw driver she was holding went straight into the ECU. Damaged it and the data is now wiped. Incredible

that's a great point. Or she doesn't understand the public trust manufacturers are given. I've said before that if anyone's rear brakes lock up under normal conditions, they could sue the shit out of Toyota. No one ever responded because their rear brakes weren't actually locking up like they said they were.

You guys are in the wrong line of work. You should be accident scene investigators and reconstruction specialists. How long did it take you to analyze and recreate the Jose Fernandez boat wreck? 10 minutes? Well it took actual experts months.

Her story does not add up. A list of things would have to malfunction all at once for it to happen the way she told it. Simple answer? She is lying.

The problem is that if her story is correct, two completely different systems on the truck failed. The park lock mechanism in the transmission, and the accelerator brake over ride system. I find that very hard to believe, but that doesn't mean that her story isn't true. Just unlikely.
