I could do with out the saftey and navigation. It's not like I'm going anywhere I need nav, that I wouldn't have a phone with navigation.

I like the saftey aspect of more structurally reinforced cab, but these collision avoidance features are not necessary, and often don't work as intended.

I often find myself looking at 3rd gens, but I always talk myself out of wanting to buy one, and I'm not sure why.

I'm sure I just heard everyone sigh with relief that you're happy with your clapped out 16 year old SUV.
Let's hear it for the Japanese Cherokee! :woot:

Far from clapped out. Drive one, you’ll see.

I've owned a GX470 and currently own an LX470. They are leaps ahead of a new Tacoma in every way, on and off road. Really a true pleasure to drive. Toyota was at it's peak in late 90's/early 2000's. The quality isn't anywhere close to what it used to be.

Yes, looks like Toyota is in a downward spiral going by the JD Power ranking. I wonder where Lexus is? Oh, there they are.

So what you’re saying is, in your mind, there’s no way that a “clapped” out Japanese Cherokee could be a better built vehicle than a new Tacoma?
    Just so we’re clear here…
Never mind the fact that the GX is built in Japan and the Taco is built in Texas or wherever…

Both my 2001 Lexus vehicles have more features and technology than your 2018 Tacoma. I also own an 01 LS430. The LX, GX and LS Lexus models were so overbuilt, so well refined. They cannot be beat. There is a reason they costed $65k in 2001, which in today's money is pushing $100k.

So you're saying a more expensive vehicle is better than a less expensive vehicle. I'd say you're likely correct on that. Wow you must have been so rich in 2001, I'm sooo jealous. Feel better?
I still have no interest in your 20 year old Lexus, no matter how many of today's dollars it would cost. I'm just not impressed. Sorry, maybe try the Lexus circle-jerk forum.

What I'm saying is that I don't care about your rig. We are all glad you are totally, overly, impressed with it though.

Wow, built in Japan like a Subaru Forester?! Do the head-gaskets go at 100k like the Subaru? Rear wheel bearings? That may impress your Honda Civic driving neighbor superdave, but not anyone here.

I am seriously thinking about a GX 470 or 460 if I cannot find a deal on a used F150/Raptor. Lexus from those older years were built like tanks.

I find the argument of build location odd.... my '05 Corolla was a Canadian build. It was flawless for the 215,000 kms I had it, and still going strong for my father-in-law. My Texas built Tacoma has been flawless. My Japanese built 4Runner died from frame rot... I would still prefer a Toyota over most other manufacturers, regardless of where they are built.
