I bought a set of 2016 TRD Sport take-offs and mounted them on my 2009 TRD Sport. Perfect fit. Looks great. And the dealer said they could program the 2016 TPMS to my truck ... then they tried. NOW they tell me they're not compatible and I need to buy new TPMS sensors and pay for installation & programming. Probably $400. My sensor light was flashing at start up before I switched the rims so the old sensors (or at least one of them) is beat and there's little sense putting the old ones back on. Has anyone found a solution to make the third generation sensors work on a second generation truck?
    All input is appreciated.

Has anyone found the answer to this question?

That is strange. When I bought new wheels, I was an idiot and took a sticker off of each wheel because I had no idea what it was. Called Discount Tire Direct and was told they’d have to pull the tires off to get the codes from the sensors because the stickers I removed had the codes on them. Called again to get someone else to ask, and was told the same thing. So I went to the Discount Tire store and told them to do this. One of their good techs said he thought he could do it without having to do that. He figured it out eventually after a few different techniques.

The point to the novel I just wrote is I would think someone who knows what they’re doing can do it?

Edit: Just saw the comment above mine, if that’s the case I guess it can’t be done.

Question, why can't you swap the schrader valve with the tpms sensors from the 2nd gen wheels to the 3rd gen wheels?

I finally decided to sell my stock wheels and was just trying to confirm what i told the buyer...that the 3rd gen tpms would not work on the 2nd gen.

Thanks for the quick replies and clarification guys.
