    Would a 98 4x4 3.4 v6 tacoma third member fit in a 96 2wd 3.4 v6 tacoma? or would I need to replace whole axle?

I think that if the 96 is a prerunner, you should be good. But for a 5-lugger I'd doubt the 4WD's 3rd will fit

IIRC, 5 lug might have a 7.5" rear end.

Tacoma 4x4 came with either an 8" elock or a 8.4" open, which will be different to the 7.5"
