What’s causing the damage, fallen branches, hail, rocks being flung from cars in front of you?

Outside of increasing your following distance there probably isn’t much more you can do I’m sorry to say.

You could remove the windshield completely, bet that would work!

Turn the wipers on full speed when you see something about to hit the windshield.

What brand of glass did you pick? OEM or aftermarket? Who did the install? I need to replace mine soon.

Some people just need to lower their standards. My mom had glass coverage and she would get it changed every 6 months. I live in the rock chip capitol of canada.

If you can see, there's nothing to worry about. The only people who say glass is structural are glass replacement companies. They thrive on fear tactics.

I have windshield replacement on my auto policy. It’s quite cheap.
Just curious op are you a tailgater?

You might try tinting it to see if it helps.

there's a whole lot of caveats to this one. a single chip, and possibly a single layer crack, likely doesn't have a major effect on the structural integrity of the panel. but a crack or impact across both panels could definitely alter the integrity enough to effect things.

i mean, that texas repair facility never had a second thought about glueing the roof panel instead of using honda's method of welding it, and it resulted in 31.5 million in damages because of the alteration to the structural integrity.

3 times in a year is most unusual. Over the years I’ve had several repairable chips. But since I started driving I’ve only had cracks twice that required windshield replacement and one additional time in a rental car. And that’s over the course of a million ++ miles I’ve driven since I started driving and I’ve driven all over the western US.

WV checking in here, I've been driving over 20 years, and never once needed a total replacement. I have once had a rock/slag truck kick up a sizeable rock, smacked my windshield and put a good hairline check into it. I couldn't fingernail it from the inside, so I didn't do jack all to it. It out lasted my need to keep that vehicle. This was on one of my State's famous goat-path style tight access roads, of course of the main drag and I was old enough (that my old man's voice was playing in my head constantly) to know not to ride the big rigs ass. I wonder if this is more of a luck issue, a difference in driving style, or maybe even differing laws in the States ex: some make different laws/ordinances for GMVW and or Axle total which require/do not require mud flaps and different things.

You could try windshield protection films but I've read mixed results in terms of durability/distortion over time. Your best bet is windshield insurance and driving habits.

    Will those bug deflectors help?

A few here mention tint, there is a clear tint for the windshield. Not sure how effective tint & bug deflector is, but anything is better than nothing for now.
