Here is the scoop. I went ahead and ordered a thermostat housing along with the upper hose housing for the 2.7 that is in the donor cab. DSC00530.jpg DSC00532.jpg I want to run the engine with water to see how well the engine will run. I am not planning to use it, I just want to know what I got. Maybe I will sell it for operating budget. I got the water housings today and installed them. I have not added coolant yet. I will add antifreeze to protect the possible investment. As far as the cab goes, I installed the carpet and bucket seats just to get an idea of how it will look. I also need to make room in my storage unit ( I mean my garage.) The carpet looked awesome. Even though the body parts of the truck are going to be all different colors, the interior will be very nice and will mach. Both 99 trucks have the same color interior. The headliner in the rolled white tacoma was no good but the red tacoma cab had a nice one. I also drained the rest of the engine oil that did not leak out of the rusted out oil filter and put a new oil filter along with oil. I will post some interior pictures tomorow. I also got new leaf spring bushings for it. I had to cut out the leaf spring bolts to remove the springs. I had planned on using them in the 36 tacundra. One spring sagged 3/4 of an inch.

Hear is the cab with the seats I plan on using. Looks pretty good to me.DSC00565.jpg The before!!!DSC00514.jpg DSC00563.jpg DSC00564.jpg DSC00562.jpgI put engine coolant in today to find a leak in the radiator. I will pull it and install a back up. I also plan on hooking up the trans shift lever. I really want to see if it will move on it's own power. Maybe drive it through the woods next door, LOL. It is all about having fun. The little things that make you smile.

    That looks great!
I'm gonna pull my carpet in the spring to put some sound deadening under... I'll probably try this 'super pressure clean' method lol. Can't argue with those results.

So I have not done much lately. Today I did finished installing new leaf spring bushings into the 4x4 frame. I do not use air, so I had to drill press the rubber in the old bushings. Then I jig sawed them from both sides. Then the centers pushed out. I used a saws all on the outer ring. Then chiseled them out. It was not fun. I also installed a second radiator in the red cab, filled it with antifreeze, then ran it. It seemed to smoke. I just let it run. I wanted to see what would happen. After 20 min or so I mashed the throttle. The exhaust was like a diesel, just black each time I mashed it. After that it seemed to clear up. This is before DSC00571.jpg DSC00572.jpg DSC00573.jpg DSC00574.jpg I took out the add a leaf and the shackle lift.

The red cab has one in it. Seems to run okay too. I will not be using it though. I already have the 4.0 v6. So the cab swap is coming soon.

HaHaHa. I got it. I am in wa so I do not see it being sold on TW but anything can happen. I am going to run the engine more and try driving the truck around the block, see what it does.

Today I hammered out the front breaks. I had taken out the pads on one side just to get the pile to roll. I also hooked up the shift cable down below. I put it on the ground and took it for a spin. I have to be ... I had fun driving the pile. No brakes but the E-brake. I drove it around the block and through the trees. Spun the tires in the grass and on the pavement. Had I had a second set of hands, I could have gotten a better pictures. Hear they are.DSC00575.jpg DSC00576.jpg DSC00579.jpg DSC00581.jpg
My father had showed up. He was laughing at the little truck that could, spin a tire that is! Oh ya, it made it interesting to shift the trans with a cable under the dash because the truck was originally a column shift, but I had a floor shift steering column in it now.

I got the engine unloaded. I am a little bummed that the starter is missing along with the trans mount. I also notice one of the vvti electric cylinder is broken at the plug along with the little plastic valve at the back of the intake. A lot of little things that make me second guess my choice to use it. Maybe I should sell it and find something else. Lots of work to do so no choices have to be set yet. I just get the feeling it is going to cost me. hear is the engine out of the trailer. DSC00582.jpg DSC00583.jpg Oh yah and the actuator on the transfer case is broken too.

One of my older brothers died at 47 from a hart attack on dec 18, then x mas and new years. Then the rain and all, so I have been going slow. I was missing the air box, starter, trans mount, and a engine mount bracket. I have ordered them and received them, so I have made progress. I have nearly removed the wreaked cab. I am wondering if I need the frame for the 4.0, because the oil pan and steering rack location. It seems as though it would be a lot more easy to just put the truck back together. Yet I have not given up on the 4.0. I have not found builds that have already been done with this combination.

    Sorry to hear that.

I don't know much about all the subtle differences between the frames and such. I hope the weather clears for you, I look forward to seeing your work :)

DSC00675.jpg DSC00677.jpg DSC00676.jpg What a bunch of hot rods, LOL. It is a good thing I have fun playing with my toy trucks. Otherwise I might think I was wasting my time. The white one is getting the rest of the cab cut off. I am going to keep the firewall so I will able to use as a mock up for the 4.0. The red one I was playing with the engine. The o2 sensors were out of the tail pipe just hanging around causing an exhaust leak and noise. I bolted them in and it was much quieter. There was steel a dry bearing noise that could be heard when running. I then took off the A/C belt and it was quieter, bus still noisy. I removed the Alternator belt and the engine was pretty quiet. The truck last lived in Ocean Shores. It has a bit of rust so things make noise. At least I know the engine is sounding good.

Today I put the sliding rear window in the donor cab. I got a 1/8th inch camo camping rope from dennis company. I took the old glass out and cleaned the window ledge. Then I took the rope and wrapped it around the window seal 2x. I set it in the opening and put it to one corner. I had the slider open. I was able to get the lip of the seal in enough to use the rope to pull it in. I took my time, but I did have it installed in 20 min. hear is the end result.

So a few weekends ago I sold the 2.4 and now there is no hump preventing the cab from coming off.
    DSC00774.jpg
And today I finished cutting the cab off the 4x4 frame.

So the whole 4.0 v6 is not looking so hot. I set the engine in the frame to take a look at what is what. The Oil pan sump is too far to the rear. It sits on the cross-member. If I do a SAS, I can make it work. Another Idea I had is the 05 06 Tundra had the 4.0 v6. It has a different oil pan. Since the same truck had the 4.7, and I was able to fit the 4.7 in this frame, I should be able to find components to change the oil pan. But who knows? It seems to bee an odd thing. Maybe this is why I haven't found builds with this combo.
