7 seconds is a great output for this power train.

I am not seriously going to street race in this truck.

OP I get what you are saying. I know everybody here is like "it's a truck not a race a car." They're right, but that being said, the engine in the 3rd gen (IMO) does feel sluggish. It's not unreasonable to ask Toyota to add a little more get-up to the gen 4 Tacoma.

You bought a truck to race? Stock? And you are shocked? Figure out how to do an engine swap, custom turbos, or super charger, none of which exist at the moment last I checked. These weren’t meant to race, they were meant to haul and others to an extent, off-road. Sounds like you needed a Ford F-150 Harley Davidson or Raptor. Oh boy...

When people complain about how slow their 3rd Gen is it just lets me know they have never owned a Toyota pickup truck before.

These trucks have been slow for the last 40 years, nothing new here.

2nd Gen Tacos have pretty good response for a 4.0 in a midsize truck. The Atkinson cycle 3.5 and trans in the third gen does leave a lot to be desired, and are not optimally setup from the factory. This is putting it nicely.

You like your truck-that's all that should matter.

The third gen Tacoma is selling a lot of units, so most of the "hate" must be minor background noise.

TW represents a small fraction of Tacoma owners, so don't get caught up in the hyperbole.

Most are probably sighing "not another one of these threads" and moving on without reading it. I was almost one of them, damm it.

Op, the only way knowing this information is useful is so you can speed back to HR and turn your 401k back on.

Because there are more 2nd Gen people than 3rd. 2nd Gen 0-60 times are the same as 3rd.
Passing 3rd is faster than 2nd.
3rd is a reliable truck people pick apart for the smallest issues. Months of posts about holes that howl a bit. Geeesh.
Funny how many 2nd Gen people have to come in here and whine.
