So note to self, never drive my whit in San Francisco. From the sounds of the front impacts, you could have some damage to the frame and coil bucket. Only way to tell is to get under and check for stress cracks, marks, or bends.

your whit? you have more dangerous drivers than me to look out for in SF just a heads up. ill check those out when i get home. I'm pretty sure the frame is ok if i would see stress marks because I've looked for them and haven't seen any.. could chipping paint on the frame = stress marks? would i be able to tell just by looking at the coil bucket if it were bent?

Need to check it with a truck that hasn been hit. Put a flat angle on it to verify straightness, and yes cracking paint could be a sign of stress. And whit, as in whitney houston, the name I gave my taco.

Hmm. Damn my buddy just sold his tacoma too. Might be tough to find one to compare it with but I'll compare the driver and passenger coil buckets. ah that clears things up I thought it was a typo haha. thanks for all the helpful info every1.

Might end up doing that.. Will the dealer be able to fix it regardless of what it is? Only bad thing is they will probably charge me 125 just to diagnose it.

No, go to the dealer, park, walk into the sales lot, and start taking dimensions. No need to go to service. Unless you want to pay them to figure it out.

Ok so after comparing my passenger side to my driver side I'm almost positive it's the coil bucket... It doesn't look too severely bent but it's definitely not perfect. I figure I'll just wait till I'm putting my suspension kit in to fix it?(next week or 2) I'm just hoping my mechanic buddy will be able to fix it :/.

OK so only way to fix that is to cut and weld in a new one. Question is your frame bent causing it to seem wrong?

damn that blows seems like its going to be expensive because i sure as hell wouldn't trust my welds on something like that.

well it didn't seem like it.. i couldn't find anything on the frame that looked different from the other side. At the same time the coil bucket is a lot easier to compare. The coil over on my driver side was like 1/8" from on one side of the coil bucket. The passenger side had almost 1/2" on each side of coil over in the coil bucket.. not sure if i explained that well let me know if you need some pics.

    http://parts.camelbacktoyota.com/pa...siteid=214329&vehicleid=84943&diagram=8510135

i think that the coil bucket is # 18 on that page^ ?? can someone confirm that please.

That does not completely prove that the bucket is bad. You still need to compare specs of an undamaged tacoma, same make and model, at the lower control arm tabs, frame widths (inner and outer), upper control arm mounts, length of frame from body mount to strut bucket, length of frame from strut bucket to core support. What is your caster set at. etc. etc.

Definitely a preponderance of hits has probably bent something...I worked in SF for 15 years, two accidents, neither serious, one was my fault...still trying to absorb everything...

If you can't figure it out yourself, you could take it to a good body shop with a frame specialist, it may be the only way for you to nail down what is going on...I would venture a guess that a control arm bushing bracket is tweaked, or a bent control arm, that or some frame damage....these trucks may seem bullet proof but if you keep banging them here and there something will get tweaked...

When the truck got fixed with any of the accidents, did they check the frame to make sure it was okay?

OMG, I just looked at your build pics, it doesn't look like she has been treated with respect...

    Good luck fixing her up...

Hmm this seems a little out of my league. I'll give it a try but I Might end up taking it to my buddies shop or a frame specialty place to get it diagnosed.

Amen to that, there isn't one corner, side, front or back that hasn't been hammered, it would probably be cheaper to just get another one, seriously, except for the roof, it looks like every bolt on body part, fenders, doors, bed, and probably the tailgate needs to be replaced....

It looks like it has been wheeled hard offroad already....
