Hey there Tacoma world! I am new to the Tacoma/truck life but am so stoked on the new rig and all the adventure to come! Wanted to start with a little bit about me and what this rig is going to be about for the future.

I work as a sales rep in the outdoor community handling accounts through WA, ID, MT, and Montana. I used to pay rent but decided to move into my Subaru Outback last summer due to never being home and always being on the road for work. The Subaru was great but as I have started spending more and more time in a rig I needed more space and rugged terrain capability so I made the move into the Tacoma.

This truck and the road will be my home for the next couple years (for the most part) and I will be traveling around the NW working but also chasing fish, surf, bike trails, snow, golf, and good times!

Here is what I've got so far...
    Yakima Box
    Tepui Awning
    Kuat Bike Rack
    Leer 122 Canopy
Truck Floor (needs to be finished)
Truck Bed - Expandable (needs to be finished)

Do you have a blueprint or plans for how you built that expanding bed frame?

I wish! It would have been way easier if I did. I saw something on a van build like 5 years ago on YouTube and just based the idea off of that. I can try to take photos and build a thread on it in the future though...

It was just one sheet of 3/4” plywood, a table saw, a skill saw, chop saw, drill, and a box of screws. Still needs a little support in areas when spread out plus to be sanded and stained. Then I’ll be wrapped up! Oh and a proper mattress ha

Not the most glamorous camping spot but the sunset was gorgeous and got to give the new bed a test with both my girl and I. Worked great and couldn't be more hyped to be headed to Montana/Idaho next week for work but also some serious fishing, golf, and mountain biking!

Just wrapped up my trip at the end of last week. Fished with bison in Yellowstone, landed some beauties! Also weathered some unexpected snowfall, and had a fun time exploring through southern Idaho and eastern Oregon. Its a tough gig ha!YbsTI+Y2TIyEoy3NiktR1w.jpgV0arRHlATOSDm5XQgmh26A.jpg5B7B769A-3AB2-406D-B5F6-21EA51516BAE.jpg

Amazing setup! I'm looking at the leer 122 myself, this is the first photo I've seen on a 3rd gen. Looks like they updated the style! How do you like it? It seems like quite a few people went with the ARE MX...any reason you chose the 122 over the MX?

Sorry for the insanely slow reply here, havnt been on in quite some time.

I went with the Leer because I thought it was bigger, more similar to the old one. They showed me photos of the old one and said it was the exact same, its clearly not but I was in a rush to get this thing and had no time to argue. The space is nice but the bed itself leaks a bit and the seal on the canopy does too. Not a fan of the seal on the rear hatch either. The ARE is a better canopy for sure. Pretty bummed on the Leer products, just seams very half assed.

Sorry for the slow reply on this bud! What would you like to know on the bed? I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Also I had to build the current version pretty quick and on a tight budget so it wasn't perfect but I will be building a new version in the next month or so.

Apparently the 122 is still the same as the old school one, as long as you don't get windoors. According to my local dealer, whenever you add windoors to the 122 they subtract the large 'original' bay windows...not sure why...weird. Do you think the leaking is inherent to the design of the shell, or the fault of those that installed it?

As far as the seal leaking I think it is due to the design of the truck bed itself and the top cap. The plastic on the rails flexes and that has been the last main remaining leak point. As for the doors and such, they don't really leak but the way they are designed they drain directly into the vehicle which is kinda bullshit in my opinion...they need to change that for sure.

So built out a new bed, came out pretty well. Definitely heavier and more solid than my original as now I am doing more planning for two instead of just myself. Still need to do some final adds and adjustments but she's ready to roll and crash on. Also really need to cut and trim the mattress, way too big.
