There was a time when $1 Canadian dollar was equal to $1 USD, but right now:

So $38K after tax is actually a pretty good deal.

First off, there is no such thing as a toyota body shop. All dealers outsource all body work to the lowest bidder around the dealer. The dealer recommended shops are the absolute worse. Go do some legwork and find your own bodyshop.

$50k...o_O Sucks, shit happens, in the end its just a truck, insurance should take care of it, I'd pocket the money minus deductible and just have it buffed out and replace the shark fin, color matching is hard to do these days if they do decide to paint and probably aint worth it.

Sorry, hard to tell from pic, just looked like scratches, that really sucks then. They never were flush, you could remove/replace both in previous gen (carried over cab design). Paint matching is subjective based on what paint you have and the shop you choose, but most of the time you can tell where work was done. Good luck, sorry for crappy day.

Tell the condo it's a serious safety concern. If it can do that to a truck just imagine what that gate would do to a kid if they were in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

But either way there was a safety interlock not working it sounds like and the condo should be liable

Had that happen at an airport gate once, but I was in my '70 C20 beater, gate got caught on the bed and I tore it off when I drove away, never did see any damage to the truck but with all the dents and scratches it had I could not have seen anything anyway. Never heard anything back from the airport either, if they got my plate they must have assumed it was an issue with the gate closing too soon. Those gates piss me off, they all should have sensors in them to know when the vehicle is clear (seems like most do nowadays).
My buddy had a similar thing at a drive up bank, pulled up in his WM300 Power Wagon (the real Power Wagon) as the teller opened the box. He caught it with his fender and ripped it completely out of the little kiosk. he picked it up, went in and handed it to the teller along with is deposit.

I'd be talking to the building for insurance purposes.
Seriously they should cover the repair...
and I'd be a bit worried as to why the fuck there isn't a sensor to see if something is still there.
Its mandatory here for any condo to have sensor to be sure the gate is clear to close

I backed out of my garage this morning and for some reason the door didn't go all the way up! Hit the shark fin antenna pretty hard, but luckily not the roof or brake light. The antenna seems a little loose now, how do I tell if the seal is broken? Should I just replace it to be safe?
