I drove a lot of Mercedes Diesels back in the days before the Turbo Years and after and I loved them and still do. The Turbo was a big improvement for the 4 Banger in the days to bring it up to speed to merge. Would I buy a Tacoma Diesel? Hell yes just get them into the Showroom.:D:D

Decades? Most people couldn't make that difference up in several lifetimes.

Seems odd to get a sr5, then drop 30k on a engine swap... I would of at least gotten a higher spec if your going to spent that much extra.

Sad we don't get the diesels here. I drove one for an extended period in New Zealand in September and loved it.

Problem is if I had three Tacomas I would only drive the turbo gas model.

For general daily use, I would not either. For a towing or overlanding role, it might really be good from a range extension standpoint.

As far as bringing us a Diesel Tacoma, I'd rather Toyota bring a Diesel 79 series here.

Surely there are a few people here who just creamed in their pants.

Over 30k to do this swap

This dude would of been better off finding a Retro Diesel Tacoma or just importing a Hilux. You’d never be able to register that here in NY, or in most states. For the 60k he’s got invested I would of just went out and bought a real diesel truck.

Some people (perhaps you) don't get it. HP is of very little significance in trucks. What most people want is torque and they confuse it with HP. Torque is satisfyingly. Torque is what does the work. you want a zero-60 traffic light racer? you bought the wrong vehicle to start with.

While this project might be a little silly considering the cost Toyota should offer the turbo diesel here. It would work so much better for all the trail/overland guys.

If you are a prerunner/trophy truck type, sure a fast revving, always driving at peak HP would make more sense, if thats the case LS swap it, but lets be honest here, those are not really trucks and are more like dirt sports cars.

If they offered a factory option, I would have got a Pro model with the diesel. Because why not, I already know the higher maintenance fees etc
