IMG_0780.jpg Got hit with a rock on the highway cracked the windshield bad . I’m really surprised how cheap the windshields are on these trucks . You think they will replace the whole thing or just fix the crack . What’s weird I have had other rocks hit it before and this didn’t happen . Wondering if the glass is weaker closer to the hood .

That'll be replaced. Depending on cost you may find it beneficial to use comprehensive coverage or a specific windshield coverage of your insurance (if purchased).

Usually anything more than an inch or 2 isn't worth trying to repair. Let your insurance handle it. It's covered under comprehensive (at least in my state) and will not affect your rates.

oof they got you good. 100% needs to be replaced as others have said. I'll be surprised if it doesn't spread within a day.

Why does everyone who gets their windshield broken think its weak? Go to any forum for any vehicles and everyone thinks the way you do. It is no weaker r stronger than other vehicles.

    This. Happens to any vehicle.

    OP, just go through insurance.

New thread about windshield replacement comes up about once a week it seems.

Exactly..it's the geometry of the angle of the windshield. 4Runners are prone to this too. Happens less often with sedans and smaller cars with a more swept back windshield angle

    Yeah.
What they have told me in the past is anything bigger than a dollar bill or directly in the sight line of the driver warrants a replacement. I carry a $50 deductible on comprehensive just for this reason -- it really doesn't cost much more for a lower deductible.

That crack might spread to another edge like on the passenger side, but the windshield should hold for at least week.

Yes, it's ok to drive. But you can get a ticket for it if the officer thinks it obstructing your view to drive safely.
Yes, heat will affect it. Heat makes things expand ( get bigger) and cold makes things contract ( get smaller).
Apparently there a lot of people that didn't pass 7th grade science.

This is exactly why I carry a separate windshield rider on my vehicles. Not only is the glass expensive but the safety systems behind that glass has to be recalibrated once the new glass is installed. OP... The glass on your windshield is not "cheap" glass. I've had countless rock chips in quite a few cars. And if you get them fixed before they start to run you'll generally have no issues. But, I would also replace the windshield with an OEM windshield which you are going to have to do anyway.

Imagine replacing the windshield on this and all of the safety features that this thing has behind the glass. Now you understand why I carry a separate rider on windshield replacement. Even the automatic windshield wiper camera is behind that glass not to mention all the rest of the stuff. And as upright as this windshield is? It's just a matter of time.

I had a small Crack on the driverside of my 07, I got into the truck and when I shut the door. The Crack then spread all the way to the passenger side. So, yes vibrations, heat and cold will affect it.

    Yeah.
Maybe. You should call them and find out, and request OEM if they can do that.

You need to make that request; they will initially set you up for something different.

But you make contact with them once your appointment is scheduled, before your actual appointment takes place.

Had 3 different vehicles go through Safelite; 2 non-OEM and 1 OEM. Never had an issue making my requests or dealing with them at all but I only went OEM on one because of my heads up display.
