The one in California probably has less rust than the one in DC.

That’s a beautiful truck, but if it’s too good to be true...it’s a scam.

It's a phishing operation to get your info. At least one person in this thread fell for it lol.

The other way they run these scams is by replying and saying they are deployed or otherwise indefinitely overseas, selling it cheap because they don't know when they'll be back, etc. etc. So they ask you to wire money, either as a deposit or the full value, and they'll have a "buddy" meet you to deliver the keys and title or whatever. That guy never shows once they have the money obviously. People for sure fall for it if the pictures and descriptions are good enough.

I have also heard of a scam where they'll ask you to wire them a little more money than the cost, and they will later give you the difference. I can't remember the reason they give as to why they want to do it this way, but it seems legit. After you sent the money, they will then send you the remainder back with a check or money order. I think people will fall for it because the price of the item is so good, it seems worth it. They then send you a check or money order for the difference, so it seems good so far. The check or money order they sent you turns out to be fake, and then they have the money you sent them with no way to get it back.

Edit: I had that pretty backwards and wrong, but the gist of it was right. Here is the scam I was trying to remember: https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/types-of-scams/buying-or-selling/overpayment-scams

Yep, it's amazing that stuff works on people, but it does....

When I was in Costa Rica, you'd see the same folks in the bars each night in these little beach towns, so we got to know some of them decently well, especially the American and Canadian expats. I remember this one American dude who had been living down there for a couple of years, something seemed a bit off about him but everyone is a little funky down there so whatever... After a few days of drinking beers with him at the bars at night, he starts bragging about how he runs these scams on elderly people back in the States. Basically they target retirement homes and cold call them saying "hey grandpa, this is Timmy and I got arrested in Central America and need you to send me some money so I can get home" or something to that effect until they find an elderly person who is too far gone to make sense of it and just sends the money. That actually happened to one of my buddy's grandmothers who was sitting there listening to him tell this story. He'd been down there living a pretty comfortable beach life off that shit. I thought my friend was going to murder the guy, but ultimately we just told him to f*ck off and not to talk to us if he saw us again on that trip. Probably the biggest POS I've ever met....
