the first time and second time (done saturday) i said don't touch ECU! but this time when i picked it up it seems to run relly rough, not as responsive. they say they did not touch ECU, but i remember a toyota tech saying they had to if they did the recall work? is there a way i can check to see if they did reprogram it? if i understand correctly if the ecu is updated the brake overrides the gas pedal, so if i can still "power brake" like lock the brakes and spin both rear tires on dry pavement does that mean it still has old program?

can i read anything on OBD reader that will tell me?

side note - the first time they did the recall or first notice i got which was MANY years ago, it was about the same time i got the acceleration notice, i was bringing it in anyway to have diff/trans/motor oil changed so i did it al at once. the oils and the 2 recalls, but at that time i had no symptoms of the bad spiral cable. but the dealer i brought it to was the same dealership we bought about 25 cars/trucks new from over the previous 10 years so they i am sure of it did what i said, DONT TOUCH ECU! this dealership was about 200 miles away and i dont trust/distrust/know them?

i know tacomas have the ECU breakin per say where it 'programs itself' sorta, would this be a symptom of that happening?

i just need to know if the ECU is a possible reason, because it is AWFULLY suspicious that RIGHT AFTER I LEAVE after the spiral cable was replaced it runs extremely rough. like shifts at different rpms than before, hesitates more, i mean i used to be able to 'floor it' and it but your head back, now it like 'steps' up???

also, symptoms i had when cable did fail, was OBD codes on failure of seat sensors, squibs, and horn intermittently stopped working. the cable is a BIG DEAL!

    cheers,
    disco

they disconnected the battery to do the spiral cable replacement, resetting the ecu. you will need to clean your throttle body and drive it till it (ecu) relearns everything.

    THANKS GUYS!

I was worried for a second there!

just curious, does the way you drive in the learn period matter? meaning how do i get the best performance (if it makes a difference) gas mileage doesn't matter just performance.

    cheers,
    disco
