    What's the downside?

I've had one since 2013 and it's been awesome.

My only fear of a fumoto valve would be on a regular vehicle where any little rock can hit the valve and open it loose.
But with your skid plate protecting it you've solved that problem.

I wonder if they're able to fail on their own over time, even without being hit. Hopefully not.

If not, great. Because to take off the skids would be a pain due to bolts and high weight

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.

I've run one on a lowered Supra for years, where clearance for roadkill is a primary concern. No issues with the Fumoto.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
If I had a skid plate, I'd reinstall my Fumoto. Unfortunately, I knocked mine loose while going down a logging road and I never trusted it again after that. And I don't mean the lever came loose. I mean the plug itself twisted loose after bumping on a stump.

The cross member of the truck is lower than the Fumoto. You had to hit other undercarriage components at well. Missed the oil pan, missed the cross member, and hit the Fumoto?

    Get on it, bruh

In all seriousness, maybe it’s the light coat of oil? But I hand tighten, I don’t force it, and it always comes off. Takes a little elbow grease sometimes, and I use those blue paper shop towels, and it always gives.

Agree with @kidsmoke you can do it without tools just need to lift broski.

In seriousness the only tool I use now is one of those nitrile dipped work gloves to get a grip and it twists right off. Same way to put the new one on. Fumoto valve needs no tools. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

If you need a wrench to get the oil filter off every time, you're tightening it too much

I just make gasket (oiled) contact, then 1/4 turn. Never had leaks or stuck gaskets, always had to use an oil filter wrench. Its not frog ass tight, just the filter position and angles make it difficult to generate enough hand torque to break the seal.

Just purchased two of these valves for both yotas. Sure hope they are worth it and Fumoto will replace my engine if their valve fails.
