I took my truck in for a rotate and balance, and an oil change (I normally change my own oil but wanted a once over on the truck). They called and said my truck was out of alignment. I thought that was about right (it's been 5 yrs since it's had one). I had some minor (i emphasize, minor) wheel shake that was a little annoying. Told them about the Haweka adapter and everything. The dealership claimed they could fix that and was told that the truck ran smooth when i went to pick it up. Drove it less than a mile, and noticed the tire light (Pressure sensor) was on. Then a loud “POW” happened and saw a piece of metal fly in my side mirror. Stopped the truck and picked up the piece….it was one of the balancing weights. Went back, they “fixed” it (and said some other BS about getting mixed up with another truck and that the weights commonly don’t get fastened properly). Drove off the lot and then my truck drove like this on newly paved interstate. So now they have it again, over the weekend, and don’t know when it’ll be ready.

Beyond pissed. My truck felt like it was coming apart. Luckily got a rental, but i sure hope they fix this. I tried giving them a second chance (when i bought my truck from them they did some shady stuff (brought back after paint shop with the truck covered in dust and 25% of my gas missing and got mad when i pointed out the mess).

    Rant over….

    Look at it this way.

It sounds like you left with oil in your engine.

Get the tires rebalanced and be done with it. If your not happy with their service go somewhere else.

guess i'm going to have to. just hard trying to find some one who can get rid of the wheel shake. just didn't think the dealership could make it 10x worse.

I would go in one more time and ask them for a refund on the balance or you're considering taking your business to a competent dealership or repair facility. Once you get the cash back never return.

I wouldn't want that dealership to touch my truck again to try to fix things.

i'd like to think i'm reasonable. I'm gonna give them a chance to "make it right". I don't want anything extraordinary. i just want my truck to run like i know it should. I just hate getting lied to.

they did give me a rental (and it just happens to be the 2017 TRD OR version). It's nice, but this wheel shake has been ridiculous to deal with. I don't know why a dealership can't fix this (much less amplify the problem)

Based on your video and the fact that you lost some weights it's a balancing issue. Give them one more crack at balancing all four tires and if it still shakes at highway speeds (55-65mph) return and ask for your money back.

so i finally got this resolved. After $250 rotate and balance, oil change, and alignment it made things so much worse. (and this all happened from the toyota dealership) I had a crappy tech who lied to me several times so i spoke to a manager and got a tech who knew what he was talking about. He and the shop foreman went the extra mile to help find the root of the problem. Narrowed it to the tires (even though road force showed them good, and another shop said they were good). They could not be balanced (they were using like 6oz weights and they're huge!). Found a set of rims and tires from a 2016 4runner on craigslist. Switched them out myself and the truck is as smooth as silk. such a huge relief to have this over with. i just wasted $1k in General Grabbers that are bad (hoping to get that resolved with them), and another $1k in minor maintenance and new wheels and tires. But it's done with and i'm not stressing for the first time in weeks about this.

one minor part is that when i was taking the lug nuts off the truck i broke two threads (they were on the rims so tight it broke them away, i'm chalking that up to the dealership). Gonna go get that fixed.

I'd guess the tires were fine and they just air impacted the wheels on. This is enough to cause steering wheel shake. If a shop puts my wheels on for any reason, I loosen the lugs and retorque them myself. Sometimes I have to roll the truck with the lugs at 35 pounds, then finish torquing.
