I think I am going to make a gps holder out of wood that fits in that cubby hole down by the cupholders in the center console. I will make it where it is flush with the cubby and the gps reciever is recessed in the bracket and hardwire it to the truck. Does this sound plausable? I just hate having those things stuck on my window where you have to remove it every time you get out.

Also, where do you get the color matched carpet?

I just put it up when I absolutely need it (new city, weird address, etc.) Tom Tom also makes a very easy to remove bracket things.

I'm not sure GPS are that much valuable anymore anyway. You can get one for about 50 bucks. Can't imagine someone commiting auto theft just for a GPS unit.

I think you can do it!

I also think you should post pictures of the progress too!

crackheads will break into a vehicle to steal ANYTHING...including spare change

a GPS is easy to resell for $20-$50 to buy a rock with

why leave something visible to give them the opportunity

I am starting with cardboard template, due to the fact I am at work, and what better way to use my work time than to be doing mods for the truck. I am hoping this looks good and give an alternate place to put a GPS. I dont guess there is alot of stealing going on in Great Falls MT, but in Dallas Texas, some aholes will steal anything not nailed down.

you'd be suprised. I work in insurance and most glass claims are b/c they busted the window to steal the GPS unit. even if it only cost $50.00 bucks, right away a thief doesn't know that and isn't going to canvas the vehicle very long to find out and make himself look suspicious.

the making it look like it belongs in the truck is a good idea, as it will look good and natural, but still keep the option of removing fast. most of the time your insurance won't cover it unless it's hard wired, and if it is, you still need to meet your deductible. and with those things being so cheap now a days, it almost never exceeds your deductible.
