I promise I will not call you at 3am to come and pull me out. I pull a 5x8 approximately 3000lb trailer which I cant even tell I'm towing with my taco. Im looking to make a bulletproof desert truck that my wife can drive and I wont worry if I see a monsoon on the horizon. We bought this truck knowing its limitations. IMO 4x4 is good for snow and off roading. Here in the Az valley I'm not worried about snow and i have no desire to off road. We bought this truck in June specifically for towing this trailer. The truck has under 1000 miles on it and thats because we drove aimlessly to put miles on it so we could hit the 500 mile towing mark Toyota advises. I would like to give this truck another job besides the 30 miles a week it is currently assigned.

Here is what totally happened the whole story. We needed a truck to tow a trailer. I went to a few dealerships didnt like nissan I freaking hate chevy so i stopped at toyota after reading the towing capacities, I bought it. I didn't test drive it because I didnt really care. After driving the truck I see it is bad ass then I do some research and find out you can do a bunch of stuff to these trucks. Now Im happy.

    Ok here it goes:
The lift will cut into your mpg, and the bigger tires will cut into your HP as it takes more to turn the bigger heavier tires. The aftermarket locker will be an expensive proposition, unless you plan to DIY to save $$ but it will be completely worthless at trade in time and at speeds above 5mph may cause damage.

And after it’s all said and done, the best package for you?
A trade in for the TRDOR would be a much wiser choice and you just might even out at trade in time the next time.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

I plan on doing all the work myself. I wouldn't have that any other way. Im really not concerned with the locker at the moment. I was thinking that it would help with reversing the trailer up inclines but after doing just that yesterday the Tacoma seemed to handle it just fine. The lift and better tires+ better armor will be for unseen road road debris. Gas mileage is almost zero concern. From what i have read OME suspension kits with new leafpacks ride better than oem. Would I like a locking diff? Possibly but im learning these trucks are not s-10's. So im going to have to use the truck more to see if I even need anymore. Thanks to all of you for doing the job I gave you of trying to talk me out of it.
