There is also a corollary to this that the guys with every single off-road mod are the ones on the gentle off-road trails that could easily be done in a stock vehicle or even a Subaru.

Good point. Many years ago when I first started off-roading, I was pretty proud of myself as I came to the top of some obscure mountain pass in Colorado. That is, I was proud until I ran into the guy that had driven up there in a stock Volkswagen square-back.

My moment was making it to a top of my favorite trail in Virginia... Granted I'd done it many times completely stock, you just need to stack rocks and pick your lines etc... But seeing a Gambler 500 crew roll past our campsite was a site to behold. There was a Cadillac SRX, a Buick Century, A FREAKING YARIS complete with chopped fenders and a homemade snorkel out of 3-inch PVC... I don't how how those cars made it up the trail without deleting an oil pan or becoming hopelessly stuck because there wasn't a winch among them that I can remember... I was impressed.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I would submit that many times it's the skill and wisdom of the driver more than it is the machine.
I used to do some gnarly off-roading with a VW beetle....

Are you sure they weren’t filming one of the many American spinoffs of Top Gear?

I'm tired of telling people that driving offroad is 90% driver and 10% machine.
Lol I bet I could give @ColoradoTJ a stock Corolla and he would take it further, faster and safer than 90% of you would with built trucks.

    +1 !
You can't expect your truck to drive itself. It's skill and smarts!
My older brother did a lot of snotty logging roads in Maine in a Chevelle back in the day.

Reminds me of the motorcycle track days with the guys on the 200hp SS liter bikes in beginner group thinking they are going to own the group and then trying to figure out how and why they just got passed by a stock ninja 300 with 30 hp.

Same goes for car track days. Tech Bro shows up with a brand new GT3 RS with a custom paint job and wants to know why his lap times are slower than the guy with the beat to shit naturally aspirated 991.1.

I think their mindset would be to compare Coloradotj in a Corolla vs Coloradotj in a built truck.

As a person who's gambled a few times I'll say, it is very freeing to drive a car you don't care about combined with more skinny pedal.

Lol @ColoradoTJ probably has a few pitchers he could show.
But, there's offroading and OFFROADING. One is fire roads, maybe an easy trail. That is what our trucks are designed to do.
The second type of offroading is buggy trails, something that, unless you pretty much replaced everything except the body, this truck will never do.
It is capable enough stock to scare the shit out of me though. Your spotter tells you one wheel is off the ground, then tells you two wheels are off the ground and you start thinking... I really need this truck to drive me to work on Monday, let's not make it three wheels off the ground.
So, it's more capable than a lot of stock vehicles but truth be known, you really can't make it a lot more capable without making it a non daily driver.

Shit. I may have some pictures at work. The only thing left on my crawler that is Jeep:

Hood, steering wheel, 4.Slow motor (until I toss the LS motor in this winter).

It just sits lonely in my garage since September of last year.

    It's been fun though:

I'm probably going to do a Land Cruiser 70 series next and enjoy the trails with heat and cab.

One time I was deep into a hard high altitude uphill snowshoe route. Working very hard, sweating/freezing (this was also in Colorado). Then I saw two women coming down the trail, also snowshowing. One was... very overweight. And she had a tiny Hello Kitty backpack. :(
