Personally? I would take to the guy who can do it right. @jberry814 does his own wrenching and is quite capable. I USED to do everything myself, now riding my mountain bike is funner than working on my truck... low bidder is often not the most qualified bidder. Take a look at our roads... low bidder always wins.

truth...I took my truck in to the lowest bidder to put the performance clutch in that I had purchased through URD last year....the guy put it in backwards, no joke. Ended up costing me way more in the long run to make it right.

The system I use for work, which isn't working well for me right now shows about 4 hrs labor. Now it's a 2016 and I just went through hell trying to get it to work so take that with a grain of salt. I do enjoy your videos though so I figured I'd try to help the best I can.

Why not fix it yourself? If you've got a LT set up and *use* it, it's going to get expensive and frustrating when you don't have the resources (time/money/knowledge/extra car for a DD) to solve issues on your own.

Normally i would thats the frustrating part, ive done all my own work up until now. However im swamped, it came down to not having the time. I have to have the truck in Cali for a photoshoot on the tenth so i had to get it done. If this other shop can do it for the 450 he quoted me it will be worth it because ill make more going to this photoshoot.

Youre whats wrong with Tacomaworld and why my instagrams Dm is always full of questions. People feel like they're more likley to get shit talked on TW then get their questions answered.

In case you cant read more then three sentences in a row, i was asking a question while i was on my way to the shop in hopes i could avoid him telling him off. Ive spent plenty of time under my truck and ive owned every gen Tacoma so go fuck a goat

Regarding the difference in billable service hours...

As someone mentioned, the Toyota FSM says to remove quite a bit more than an “amateur” mechanic would and I believe there’s good reason for that.

I did a clutch job on my 03 Acura RSX and wanted to bypass a few steps that I thought were pointless. These steps said to remove the exhaust which I saw as a useless step.

Well a few thousand miles later I realized that I had bent the exhaust pipe by letting the engine slack down and the exhaust pipe would always rattle against the bottom of the car when I shifted into reverse.

The TL;DR version, the FSM lists the steps that it does for a reason. Not following the steps can lead to major consequences down the road, even if you don’t completely understand them at the time you’re doing it.
