    My front driver side started making this loud popping noise about two weeks ago. it makes the noise any time I go from reverse to forward but is pretty quite. ( the video magnifies it a lot). But when I make a sharp right or left turn the single pop gets pretty loud. I initially thought it was a ball joint or my tie rod but the noise is coming from where the cv connects into the spindle. Any ideas? Wheel bearing?

    I'm at work right now but tomorrow I'm going to pull the tire off and make sure everything is tight. Ok yeah I checked for worn lower ball joint and everything is nice and tight. Side to side and front to back.

    Also with the tire off the ground I feel no resistance in the tire spinning or no metal on metal sound to indicate worn bearings

    if it's worse at full steering lock, it's most likely the outer CV joint.

    Yes it does. But I only makes a single pop. It will not make another pop until I put it into reverse.

    Pull your brake pads out and do that test again.
    The reverse, put it in drive, one-time pop disappeared after I did a rotor/pad change.

    I did. As far as I could tell they wasn't worn. I even re torqued my lower cam bolts thinking that's where it was coming from

    Try that first, quick and easy. If it's the same pop a lot of us have had, it's worn pads shifting in the caliper when you change direction.

    I'll try it. I know what ever it is hits so hard it can be felt in the floor and steering wheel. My wife can hear it when I turn into the drive way so it's pretty loud

    If anybody has another thought input, let me know!i would love to think it was the break pads but i think it's just to loud to be that but that will be the first thing I check

    I have the same issue. From talking with some other members we've pretty much eliminated everything but something in the brake assembly. I'm getting my brakes done next week and will let you know if that does anything.

    Recently, my Nissan Versa started making a clicking noise on the left front tire. I assumed it was the CV joint going out, but once I got a chance to get the wheel off the ground and spun it, something just didn't quite convince me it was the CV joint. So I spun it forwards, backwards, shook the wheel this way and that, and it still made that clicking noise. So then I thought, "oh crap it's the bearing!" but the wheel rotated very smoothly without binding or grinding, and it didn't have any movement when I shook it. I sat there and looked at it for what felt like an hour and then I saw the cotter pin. I tapped on the cotter pin and it made that noise I heard before. It looked like one of the cotter pin legs were knocked off (I blame costco tire techs...) thus causing it to rattle around and make that clicking noise. So I re-tightened the cotter pin, test drove it around the block and the noise was gone.

    So maybe try checking to see if the cotter pin is loose?

    I'll check that also! That has crossed my mind, like the cv axle nut has came loose and is rattling around in behind the dust plate.

    After more research I be leave the tapping in the video is break pads, but I'm still concerned about the loud bang that can be heard from across a parking lot!

    I don't get off until tomorrow. (I picked up another 24 hr shift). But we shall find out !!!

    285/75/16 Bfg All Terrains, add a leaf in the rear, bilstein 5100's all the way around and someone built different upper arms before i bought it.
    I have a 2 wheel drive that does it too. When im full lock turning left in reverse, and it does it when i hit larger bumps. I've replace my rotors, pads, upper control arms and bushings with custom uniball arms, and lower control arm bushings. Sti does it...

    ^Uniballs and polyurethane bushings make more noise not less (they are stronger and stiffer, but less refined).

    @1rooster: I'd take the brake pads out, spin the wheel back and forth, and see if the noise goes away. If the noise goes away, let it be. Doesn't hurt durability.
