Man this story just keeps getting more and more depressing. My girlfriend and a couple of her friends from out of town are headed out there next weekend, ugh.

Yeah I agree, looks like he wanted to go off trail to shoot and they weren't prepared for getting turned around...or he had some twisted ulterior motives in mind the whole time. My g/f and her friends are only planning to stay in the main park area so I'm sure it's fine, they aren't avid backpackers/hikers...just wanting to explore the main sights. If I was with them, I'd be the one encouraging us to wander lol. But I'd prefer to go off the beaten path in my truck as opposed to on foot and always try to come prepared for the unexpected.

Glad the parents have some closure to this, though with this recent news I'm sure they're feeling a whole new level of confusion and pain

Wow. Didn't expect that turn. Could it be that they got lost, and worried and so desperate they figured they were better off killing themselves than dying from exposure to the elements. Although, that'd be a weird thing for guy like him to think of, His friends and family knows him as a survivalist.

Looking more and more like a planned murder/suicide by the dude. Guess we'll never know unless someone that knows something steps forward. Sad stuff

may not have been planned but looks like it ended that way. We had a lady with dementia disappear by the lake. They searched for a long time and finally found her almost 2yrs later only a couple miles from where she disappeared

My wife is all into the crime thing so she found this site that has a lot of the LEO from various area gather to discuss unsolved crimes. in the 10+ pages of this case, the female posted a lot of things about hallucinogens and psycho active drugs. Wonder if they went out there to "shroom" it up and lost their way and they both decide to just off each other. Must be a shocker to the families though to hear about this after the fact.

Was out in that area two weeks ago. If they had been able to go directly North or South they would have run into the city or road going through the park. Its not that far!

If they headed east however... but they could also have gotten disoriented and went around in circles for followed different paths that lead them nowhere.
