I wasn't too sure where to put this, so I figured I'd just ask here...

Ok, so the the question is.... Do I mod & build my current Tacoma, which is a 2015 TRD Sport (quad), which i've only made 3 payments on, or do I buy a 1st gen & build it while keeping the 2015 as a daily driver....

    Thanks in advance, aaaaaaaaaand GO!

Mod and build current. As long as you are not the type of person that will bash your truck until you break it, upgrade what you have and get out and enjoy it.

It's not like you're trying to keep your truck because its rare. So youre going to keep it 10 years… Then what are you going to do? Sell it to someone who is going to modify it then?

To be honest, no goals set in stone as of yet. If I were to mod current truck, i'd say badass mall crawler.
If I were to build older Taco, I'd say offroad monster, worthy of Baja 1000 competition.

LOL Baja 1000 taco, my old roommate had similar aspirations (including racing the 1000) with his '92 toyota pickup and then he looked at the stock class rules and realized how his truck would NEVER be remotely competitive and he'd have to dump tons of money into it to even get it to pass tech inspection.

Not saying it can't be done, you just need alot of moneys to do it

I got time. A life goal doesn't need to be done in a day. I got time. It's not a recurring goal, I just want to do it once to scratch it off the bucket list.

If you wanna race the 1000 on a budget look at the UTV classes. I've been eyeing it up myself, they are by far one of the most affordable ways to race it.

Not really caring about "doing it on a budget," more so just "doing it right." Not everything in life worth doing or buying is affordable.

Well I mentioned budget since you said doing it's once as a bucket list kind of thing. Most ppl don't drop tens of thousands of dollars to do something once. If you're talking about doing it right you should start with a newer truck, an old taco built up won't be a particularly competative race truck.

Well, my current truck is a TRD Sport PreRunner. Hardly an off road contender. It'd be a mall-crawling beast though!

Funny thing, I can't find anything on build specifications, organized by class for any of the SCORE races......Bueller?
