I just bought Toyota Sienna for my wife/family, which comes with the 3.5 v6. I am not sure that these engines are even comparable.

There is absolutely no throttle input lag on the Sienna when compared to my Tacoma (MT V6), which has a noticeable throttle input lag.

The Sienna has no "dead" spots in the rev-range, when my Tacoma seems to have a dead spot at 1K to 1.5K and from 3K to 3.5K.

When I floor the Sienna (I have a base model or "L" with no options so it's the lightest version), there is an immediacy that is not present on my Tacoma.

When I hit the gas in neutral, it feels like a car from the 90s. There is a vroom-vroom feeling and sound, whereas the Tacoma V6 will delay for about a second and then slowly climb the rev range even in neutral.

There is complaint on these forums that the Tacoma has a "mini-van" engine. Now that I have the actual mini-van, I have to say that I would rather have the mini-van engine and not whatever V6 is in my Tacoma.

I am little bit disappointed about this.

When I get some time, I will film both engines rev'n, so I can show the difference.

lol... I'm glad you are enjoying your mini-van ! I'm sure there are the same issues with my truck, but I haven't noticed much that would bother me.

Pretty good acceleration when I get on the gas pedal.

Actually, it's a Lexus engine that is being used in many applications. The reason you see a difference is... complex. For starters, instead of making a video of an rpm gauge, do something useful and compare the empty and loaded weights of both vehicles. That's a good first step to understanding why they have different tunes. Next step is fuel economy, which most people want, and how they are able to get that economy out of a 4WD Tacoma. That's the next step to understanding.

FWIW, we bought a new Highlander Platinum with the same 3.6 and 8 speed auto. There is no comparison from my Tacoma to the Highlander. The highlander is super quiet, and feels superior to my truck, until I want to haul 10 bags of concrete. Or I need to put trash in it for a run to the dump. Or when I go off road. Two totally different vehicles that share the same engine, but not the same tune. The best way to describe my wife's Highlander is ... civil. My truck? ... rough around the edges lol.

I totally agree with you. I totally feel like they down tuned it a lot when the load is light. Because you can almost feel more power when you load the back. They also know that men with trucks have a lead foot. Even then people still get bad MPG.

It was a sarcastic title that was meant to poke fun at the "This truck has a mini van engine" complaints on this website. Something that I have never said.

I guess the mods don't appreciate sarcasm.
