Actually, you make a really good point. Why is the F150 "completely new" and the Taco isn't? 95% of the time a new generation of a vehicle retains influence from the previous model. I don't understand this attitude that Toyota was suppose to forget the old Taco existed and design something from scratch.

And why would Toyota waste money on something new that isn't proven? The 2nd gen was a heck of a good truck. No reason to change a lot of things, but they came out with the 3rd gen that supposedly fixed all the minor 2nd gen issues. No more drive line vibes, better mpg, nicer interior, more creature comforts, etc

The 5.0 L has a new intake and tune. Same with the 3.5 L. Same block, slightly different animal.

Anyone with any common sense and who has been overseas knows the Middle East is chock full of land cruisers and hilux trucks. They are as common there as ford and Chevy are here.

People blow VW diesel scandal out of proportions. It has very little to do with Diesel itself. Its VW running weird software. And they did this because they are VW and they are most screwed up company in the world.
VW in Europe is like GM in US. Nobody will touch them, and if US government makes too much noise Merkel will call Obama and tell him he owes her a favor after spying on her. EPA will slap VW with symbolic fine and they will promise not to do this again.
Same with Diesel Colorado, once here no US government entity will dare to touch it.

I don't think anyone is blowing it out of proportion. They cheated on emissions testing, they admit it... their sales are suffering big time.... they are getting killed all over the media. Will they recover... sure, probably, but that doesn't change the fact that's is a huge ordeal for them at the moment and in the near future.

The "weird software" is installed to sense high diesel output levels and fudge the numbers....that's because it's hard as hell to make a decent diesel engine that's efficient enough to pass the stringent EPA requirements, while making a profit for the auto maker. This is what Mike Sweers keeps talking about.

Nope. The 2015 F-150 was all new. Completely new body made out of aluminum, instead of steel. Completely new frame. At least 500 lbs lighter than the previous year's truck.

There was no way in hell Toyota was going to take the most reliable truck ever made, with the best resale value ever, and change the frame to aluminum. Pretty cool of Ford to try this, but they are the odd man out, not Toyota....Toyota did what every other company has done with their next gens over the last 100 years.

They went conservative because why fix something that's not broken?

2nd Gen was a hit for 10 years. They did something right with it.

Basin the 3rd Gen off of a winner is not a bad idea. Yes there is a lot of trickle down/side stepping parts from other models but you know what? Those parts have a history of working.

People always say "why didn't Toyota have a complete redisgn?" But those same people say "I don't want to be a guinea pig for new things". Seems a little hypocritical to me.

Fords frame is not aluminum. It's steel. Actually, it has the highest ratio of ultra high strength steel ever used in a frame for a light duty truck.

Only the panels, body, hood, tailgate, and box are aluminum. Maybe the bumpers too, not sure on that to be honest. Everyone will be going to aluminum or other light metals in the next 10 years including Toyota. They just don't have the effort to go there right now except on Lexus where already a few cars of theirs have aluminum hoods and trunks.

One cool thing I realized the other day was since all the panels and cab are aluminum, you won't ever have to worry about rust.

Lol so funny how right after the new F150 came out, all gm truck commercial always had something to say about there truck being built with high strength steel.

Don't think that was ever mentioned in commercial before the f150. May be wrong though.

Saltwater prone areas will still have to worry about corrosion.

Well I guess it won't have to be worried about as much.
