not sure this code works. I tried and it would not apply. Was just about to pull the trigger on a snorkel and fell into the rabbit hole of DIY cowls before seeing this kit. Thinking this is the route to go for me

I might be overthinking this but I’d be concerned about water getting into the relocated cai pipe for when water gets past the windshield cowl. Looks clean though, good luck with it

Careful with this mod. I did this cowl intake and also trimmed my fenders to help fit my tires. In doing so lost my ability to keep the fender liners. The combination of those things cost me a motor. Went out with a buddy and drove through a bit of water that was no deeper than my sliders. Got stuck cause it was such thick mud. Gave it a bit of skinny pedal and it ended up slinging enough mud/water into the cowl opening on the passenger side to go into the intake and flood the motor. Unfortunately had to bite the bullet and get a snorkel. Anyone doing this cowl intake either needs to keep their fender liners in or create a deflector of some kind right at the side cowl opening to keep water from being sent up there by the tires.

This is a very interesting, sad, but potentially useful post. In the 19+ pages of this now 5-year old thread on cowl induction, I don't recall anyone pointing this out or trying to do something about it.

This doesn't make sense. The cowl intake mod had nothing to do with water getting slung up into the cowl from the tires. The missing fender liners is what allowed the water to enter the intake, which would have happened even easier had the mod not been done and the intake was in the stock location. So either way, the cowl intake mod is only a benefit and in no way allows water to enter the intake when in water no deeper than the sliders. You absolutely need fender liners/inner fenders!! I've had the cowl intake for a while now, I do heavy wheeling, been in water deep enough to run over the hood, river crossings, deep mud, snow, you name it, no issues what so ever!!

Just helping to caution anyone running no liners what may happen. I ran no liners for about 4 years. 1 years into doing the cowl intake I hit some water and cost me a motor. Just providing information is all. I said a combination. Could have been exclusive to no liner but when my failure happened I had both.

I just put the elbow on and tube and where the tube pokes the firewall, i drilled the hole... I think i had to move over 1/4" to avoid some wires, but it was easy.

I will say that I ended up replacing the rubber grommet that came with the kit, it didn't hold the tube well enough to stop the vibration on the firewall.

I ended up buying a much thicker grommet and now i don't get the vibration.

How does missing fender liners = water in the motor?

With a stock intake, no fender liner, I can see water coming into the airbox throught the fender space. With a cowl intake, how is the fender liner the issue? Especially in "slider-deep" water?

There's an opening in the driver side fender well into the cowl, so if you're flooring it in muddy water you could kick up enough of it to flood the cowl.

Edit: I just checked and it's on both sides actually.

Ah, I see. That's gotta be a lot of flooring it eh?

Yeah I'd assume so, not exactly trying to prove it though  I rigged up some (crappy) fender liners since I still have a stock intake. Seems to be good enough to prevent kicking stuff up directly into the intake. I was mainly worried about dust and snow though, I try to avoid water crossings in general.

If you are driving thru a water puddle at high speed. Keep in mind that water does not like making 90 degree turns at high speed or even raining type speed. Without hitting something.
A cowl intake will be dry.
    Dust tho, that’s different.

however if you are fording a river at slow/crawling speed, if you submerge deep enough you will get water there.
But if you get water that high up to the hood level, I’d suspect you would have other issues than just the engine hydro locking.
Short circuited the ECU and other electrical
Water injest in all breather valves (rear diff, front diff, transmission).
    Water inside the cabin.
    Wet feet
    Wet gear

you might as well just leave the vehicle there. It’s not amphibious.
