Backup camera is useless with the tailgate down. Tailgate up keeps the bikes and back of the truck protected.

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
No problem with the tailgate down. I personally use a 5x8 because I have had my tent on the bed and it leaves the bed for gear.

I don't ride a dirt bike, but I've got a ATV. My solution is a trailer. A small trailer is pretty easy to tote and comes in way handy. Also, allows me to use a tonneau which will eventually be replaced with a cap.

Get a small trailor for your hauling, it's easier to load a trailer then the back of a pickup and it saves it from damage also you can still have a tonneau cover. As far as a trailor being hard on the truck, as long as you don't drive like a madman and floor it everytime you take off you will be fine. Anybody that has experience hauling knows stopping is the main concern!

I just brought an XR and DRZ home in mine side-by-side with no issues. If I was having to do that all the time though I'd be buying a util trailer. Muscling a non-running bike up ramps by myself is bound to go wrong eventually. I also have some big bikes, GS1200Adv and the like... that I bring on family vacations once in a while which I fear would fold the tailgate in half if you hit a big pothole or dip. I probably could use some C channel to distribute weight though... basically - it can be made to work fine with some creativity. The thing is that "long" bed is equally as challenged - it's only another foot - so either way you aren't closing the tailgate with any bike unless it's diagonal. If they were offering an 8' bed, that would make a big difference but the gain between 5' and 6' isn't really that much capability at all.

Got 2 bikes and a doublecab. They fit no problem with the tailgate down.

If storing space for the trailer is an issue, could always get one of those folding ones.

If the "buy back" offer is in the form of a mailer from a dealership, you should get over there and trade as fast as you can, before they change their mind. They are probably going to "pay off your trade, no matter how much you owe", or "give you above market trade value", or "keep you payments the same for a new car", or maybe the "owner is out of town", or "the sales manager has lost his mind". You also may quality for "zero down".

    I bet! I've got a 8'x12' I gave $900.00 for back in 01 works great!

I'd like a small trailer so I can use the rtt easier, but it's doable with two bikes and a toolbox.

I have a dclb and usually have 2 bikes in the truck, either way you have to have the tail gate down so it doesn't really matter. Does 1 bike fit diagonally in a sb with the gate up? I went with the long bed because I often have lumber and sheet rock in the bed for house projects and it works a little better for that but if it's just dirt bikes I'd go sb

Kendon folding trailers are nice, but expensive.

Harbor freight sells folding trailers (barebones - frame, wheels, coupler, wiring, no floor) for about $300 IIRC.

I used to have a Lifetime folding trailer (since discontinued) that was awesome, too .

All that said, having a bike in the bed rather than a trailer would be 100x more convenient. Ever try u-turning on a 1-lane country road with a tiny trailer in tow? Nightmare.

// edit - also, if you're considering hauling a trailer, why bother with a truck to begin with? Get a 4Runner and haul with that. The whole point of a truck bed is to haul stuff in it.

Yeah they are spendy! glad I have room for a regular trailer. Paid $1000 new, for a 5X8' Big Tex flat bed, tossed on 3 Pingle wheel chocks...works great. Chose that over a 3-Rail since I use it for other stuff besides hauling the bikes...makes hardware store and nursery runs easy peazy!

Recently bought a 5X10 enclosed for just under $2K used, that we use as a poor man's toyhauler. Might be selling it though, because not sure a 4 cylinder SR Tacoma will pull it. (haven't bought the truck yet) My 1st gen with the 3.4 pulls it "ok".

Oh yeah, forgot about Habor Fright.

Believe this is the same trailer from Northern Tool.
