Thank you both very much! This was back in like 1993 I think and back when that 82 was just flawless and practically brand new. My dad and me both have since wheeled the hell out of that pickup over the last 20 years. And then in 99 my dad bought a 1970 Toyota FJ40 for a grand and so since I was 10 we worked and restored the 40 and are still restoring to this day but that was my experience/schooling in restoring classic toyotas. I'm so grateful to have a father that loved toyotas and showed me how to aswell and also taught me a million life skills in between. So my love for a manual transmission vehicle goes extremely deep for me and always will.
    20200727_124203.jpg
So this is the current state of the 82 from the pics above, she is getting a full frame off restoration just like the FJ40. I want it to feel and look like it just drove off the lot in 1982 lol.
    FB_IMG_1604250621232.jpg
    FB_IMG_1604250610155.jpg
These are just some random pics right before she got stripped down for the restoration. I never get tired of shifting gears in that 82 pickup! Not to long ago I drove the 82 from California to Nashville and loved every single shift of it.
    20200727_124542.jpg
And for more M/T Toyota porn. Here is a 1983 Toyota Pickup 4X4 that i bought for very cheap 3 years ago and it is absolutely 100% rust/dent free and it is getting restored at the same time as the 82. Its just stripped down right now but I bought it complete and running and driving.
    20200602_174122.jpg
And then here's me and my dads 1970 FJ40 restoration, well never ending restoration, and yes I bought a 2016 Tacoma in Quicksand just so I could match my dad's FJ lol. So this is why I love and choose a manual gearbox because it's all I've ever drove and I fell in love with it. And a manual gearbox is just far superior for my wants/needs.

I have always owned a manual, and always will while I can. It’s better to drive than the AT, and an added bonus is not many people nowadays can drive stick, so it’s a bit of theft protection.

I just wish they made a DCLB manual... would have gone that route in a heartbeat.

Brandon you are a very squared away young man and I love your Toyotas. I can honestly say by definition I owned a 1990 Toyota SR5 and the Missouri DMV would verify that. That pickup was driven by my middle son who drove the crap out of it and wrecked it twice. I could care less about the pickup truck because I love my son more. He's fine thanks thanks for asking....

99% of the time you might be right. But I've been in situations where driving a stick shift off-road in a dangerous situation required a lot of skill. As an example, I was in Moab two weeks ago exploring trails. For half of my time there I was driving my off-road car (a '73 VW Thing with Turbo-charged Ford engine and a manual trans) and had a great time. We did get into a couple of situations where driving a stick was harder and required more skill then an auto would have, but for me that added to the enjoyment of our trip. Later that same trip I switched to a 1,000cc Rzr which had some sort of CVT transmsission and I literally got bored driving it. I'm not sure Rzr's come with a MT but if they did having one would have likely made my time in a Rzr more enjoyable.

The fact that something like 5% of Taco's are manuals makes them rare. Do I ever expect to be able to sell my MT Taco and retire, no. But I do know of people who have traveled out of state to buy them. A year ago a friend of mine sold his 2nd Gen Taco with an MT in less than a day to someone who had been looking for one for a long time. The diehards are out there and there are more of us then you may realize :D

As far as cool goes, I guess that all depends on your perspective. My friends and neighbors who have seen my Taco all remark how cool it is that I got one with an MT. Does that make me cooler? I doubt it but what the heck, I'll take any help I can get! Bonus if it gets me more followers on IG too

At the end of the day, at least for me being able to get a Taco with a V6, MT, 4wd and with an Off-Road package are why I chose to buy a Taco. I can honestly say that if I'd been able to get a new T4R set-up the same way with an MT I would have bought one of those instead, but for the way I use my Taco and the fact that the majority of the time I've spent off-roading and four-wheeling has been in MT vehicles so they're what I'm most comfortable driving, especially off-road.

For sure, driving a manual in most situations off road as well as on road for that matter definitely takes more awareness, finesse and gusto and is likely more fun, no argument there. Day to day it can also be a hassle that many people choose not to deal with. I'm not even sure how I got in this debate for the hundredth time.

MEEEEE2. I wanted a manual, I wanted the six foot bed, and I wanted a AG Pro. I could not have it all so I went back and forth for some time, but in the end the stick won out....

Thanks for all the pics, you have some really cool rides in your collection -- even better that you and your dad work on them together.

You really gave this a lot of thought. I'm sure you're right and the shitty shifting of the '16 -'18 was blown way out of proportion by AT owners.
