    I enjoy it.

    It's more fun.

It's better for Towing, expecially in the mountains on long hills.

    I have more control Offroad.

It makes me feel better than all the peasants that drive an auto. /s

You forgot more wheel torque. You lose a measurable amount of power in an AT, plus the AT is geared higher. MT = Additional Torque

I have spent something like 75,000 hours at work in my life --- Driving is about the only passion I have left...

Even the most mundane trips still have the potential for "something" -- like a wild card or a lottery ticket.

It could be a wild life sighting, something cool hidden behind a garage, a pretty woman out for a walk, a "for sale" sign on some rusty clunker you can't live without -- point is you just don't know what there is to see and going somewhere, anywhere beats the crap out of being at work...

For me it is and always has been about the ride not the destination, having something engaging to drive just makes the ride experience better. My daily is an old van, pretty dull to drive so I put a kick-ass stereo in = engaging. The stereo in the Tacoma is only mediocre but it has a 6 speed and sport suspension = engaging. (looks cool too)

To drive 100 miles to get lunch turn around go home makes perfect sense to me.

Because 'standard' transmissions used to be standard. I was just used to having one.

Not being part of the blubbering mass of distraught Tacoma owners continually whining about the poor shifting automatic.
It may not be as bad now but a couple years ago it seemed like the main gripe with these trucks, and that's saying something.

I’ve never had a single “gripe” with my AT. What’s that say?... Also, Tacoma forums make up maybe 2% of ALL Tacoma owners. Of that 2%, lets say half are AT. Of that remaining 1%, maybe .5% have “whined” about it. What’s that say?... & if you feel that the %s are a bit higher than my estimations, you can still do the math & see that the AT is not an “issue” overall. Most people bitch. It’s what they do these days. Usually over way more petty shit in life compared to the Tacoma AT.

I'm finding ALL the newer auto's to hunt too much. Granted, I've only made my way to a 6 spd. auto but it was bad. My 5 spd. Honda is bad. I can only imagine a 10 spd. Honda. It's going to get that a CVT is smoother and less obtrusive so they put those in and people will say 'Yay'.

I opted for the manual simply because I enjoy rowing through the gears and feel more in control/connected to the truck and driving experience. I also own an 06 Evo IX that has a 6 speed manual that I love driving as well. It's a dying option for vehicles which gives it a more "rare" feel to it. I get that autos/dual clutch autos these days are far superior performing than manuals but whatever. It's my money and I'll make financial mistakes it how I want, lol. Not like we can take any of this with us when it's our time to go!

Well I drive a manual because I was raised driving a manual transmission and it was the best. My first driving experience was with a 1982 SR5 Toyota Pickup that my dad taught me in, I was the little one in the pass seat (and yes I still have that pickup)20201101_023841.jpg and so it just became natural that I only own manuals. And I will never buy an auto because there just not as reliable and a manual transmission is SOOOO much easier to work on and rebuild compared to an auto. 20200928_152949.jpg

Glad you have no gripes. I'm sure there are plenty more just like you.
Toyota has however, released several TSBs that deal with driveability issues. The latest was for 19/20 trucks with.. you guessed it, auto trans.
    What does that say?
I'm pretty sure that means there are considerably more ppl than a few "TW whiners" complaining to corporate.
    Carry on.

Edit: Here's the link to the latest TSB pdf:

My first vehicle was an '88 Isuzu pickup w/ a MT and I loved having a MT. I really wanted another when I got my 3rd gen Tacoma but I needed 4 doors and the desire for a 6' bed was greater than it was for a MT.

Just wish they'd option a MT on DCLBs

My gen 1 truck finally would not pass inspection ( rust belt truck even with new frame). It had a solid manual which put up with snow plowing and boat hauling for a couple of hundred k with no new clutch eventhough I smoked it a few times. With the manual low range there was a sweet move from 2nd low range to reverse plowing. And I really liked having a manual transfer case shift. Have replaced it with a low miles gen2 truck with auto. My left foot doesn't have anything to do, and shifting into the low range is finicky. I reckon I'll get used to the forward reverse shift. It does hold nicely on boat ramps, no longer need my clutch saving block. Being a tightfisted Yankee, I couldn't justify a new manual truck, and used ones are really hard to find.

I grew up on MT’s.... but that was a long time ago. It’s funny that none of the young folk I work with can drive one. That said, when I bought a 2nd gen Taco in 2015 I decided to drive an MT since I hadn’t owned a MT vehicle in a few years. Took it out for a test drive. I hopped onto the interstate and promptly got stuck in a traffic jam. Went back to the dealer and bought a brand new Tacoma.... AT

I walked in the dealership looking for an automatic but then a manual was presented and I just couldn't resist it. My concern is during resell, the market for manual is getting smaller. I just hope it will not affect the value negatively.

Ok. Cool. I have never had any of those issues. & the TSB clearly states “some”, not “most” & definitely not “all”. What’s that say?... & these are software adjustments, kind of like the ones for your phone when your phone is still working fine. There is nothing mechanically wrong with the AT. So i’ll keep carrying on enjoying my trouble free AT while you MT guys keep trying to justify your misplaced MT superiority by using words like “fun” & “engaging”. Thanks.

    Lol..
Still, you have to agree with the logic that a multi-billion dollar corporation like Toyota isn't going to mess with their ECM calibrations due to a few complainers.
FWIW, I don't think my transmission is superior.. I just don't like automatics. Never have, never will.
    You like your A/T? Great!
Why are you bothering to post in a thread where the question was asked about M/T?
    Go enjoy your Tacoma lol

With technology now days trucks/cars do every single thing for ya. I’ve always had older manual diesel up until my last 2 trucks. They were automatic and at first it was really nice but I found myself bored after while. My last truck being a 19 Ram 2500 with MDS. The only way to deactivate it was using the gear limit selector. I absolutely hated it and thought to myself if this were a manual I wouldn’t be pissed off everytime I put the truck in drive. Drove my brothers 20 offroad and loved everything about it but the automatic, so here we are. 20 off-road manual and loving every single minute of it
