If it's anything like the 2021, it's really nothing to rave about. Except for sports cars, where they spend a lot of time perfecting the engine tunes, most modern MTs SUCK thanks to throttle-by-wire. The computer interprets your throttle input and decides what it wants to do--very difficult to have full control of a vehicle when you don't have full control of the throttle. I still love my truck because A.) the OrangeVirus Tune made it significantly better and B.) modern manual pickups just don't hardly exist anymore

Not true. TRD Off-Road (I own one) and TRD PRO trucks do not.

You’re right. You’re right. Any reason to it? Even the SR has it. It’s really not anything crazy outside of some programming

I was wrong. Only the SR and sport have it.

edit: I’ve come to learn not all manuals have it. Only the PRO-SR and PRO-Sport seem to have them. Sorry fellas

The brake booster is different for the A-TRAC system in the TRD Off-Road and PRO and for some reason that doesn't allow this hill holder feature.

50yrs with a stick and only thing to fix is the occasional clutch. All the top muscle cars from the past had a stick. Slush boxes have maintenance and when driven hard tend to fail and are expensive to fix. No, I will choose the stick every time.

Drove a manual VW for 12 years before getting my truck. I'm over it. Went with the auto Tacoma.

im so used to using the clutch and gas peddle on a hill never gave my truck the chance to have the brake assist to kick in....but once it did and i though the breaks was sticking or something was wrong...not until i saw someone in here talking about it and i figured it out....i don't necessary care for it....kinda messes me up...not used to a "so called" safety feature that actually causes me to roll back further than if i didn't have it... for someone driving a MT for 35+ years ...takes some getting used to.

Clutch and gas it like you don’t have it. It’s not going to drag the brakes or anything, it will release them the moment you start moving.

Yup. I had hill start assist on a Ford Focus and I disabled it. I found it held on too long for my tastes. It would bog down the engine if you didn't give it more throttle/rpms than would typically be necessary.

I'd rather just use the handbrake if it's really needed so I can match the clutch out to brake release to my liking.

i suppose no way to disable it on the Tacoma.....other than taking to the dealership...$$$$...i can just see a malfunction down the road that causes it to engage and not to disengage...the more extra SH1t there is the more stuff with break...

No the Dealership will not be able to disable it, guessing it's a reliable system though and wouldn't worry about failures.

First vehicle I have owned that has it. I barely notice it now. Had the truck for more than 5 years and 79,000kms. Never had a glitch or an issue.
