I suppose my biggest reason would be to do truck stuff. Max out payload while towing and not have to worry about an AT throwing a titty sucking cry-baby fit while pulling a grade or crushing interstate miles at 75 mph.

When I got to high school I quickly noticed the guys that worked on farms drove the nicest cars and trucks, hence they made good money. So I got a job on a big diary farm and being a kid from the suburbs I didn't know how to drive any equipment or manual transmission anything. The other farm hands of course had a lot of fun with this discovery and made me drive everything. I think a few of them may have hurt themselves from laughing so hard at me.

"Hey Jim, go get the bobcat! Hey Jim, go get the pickle truck! Hey Jim, go get the 44-40."

By the end of the first summer I could drive everything and by the end of the first year I was good at driving everything, foreward and backwards. And I enjoyed it!
Since then if I can get a manual I do it, and have had mostly manuals since.

BTW, this meme ought to be on every page in this thread!

I just read the first and last pages of this thread; willing to bet I agree with 99% of the responses.
All of my vehicles are MT's. It just feels right. My wife is a hard core MT gal as well; she'd lose what little respect for me she has if I drove an auto.

I do not welcome our automatic overlords and their boring drives and lack of engagement.

#1 reason... MTs are waaaaay funner to drive. Tacomas are an enthusiast vehicle. Rear locker, stick shift, and superchargers from the factory (RIP 2014).

#2 less complicated, less maintenance, stupid supposed "lifetime ATF" there's no dipstick on the stupid things anymore.

#3 control in wintertime and engine braking, especially offroad. CLUTCH DUMPS!!

standards have been an endangered species for decades so having one is kind of a nice little novelty these days...

If my Tundra would have had a Manual option it would be the perfect truck. Only downside.

    IMG_8199.jpg

I can’t imagine my gutless old trucks without one!
    IMG_6565.png

Short throw shifter was fun in this one
    IMG_6557.png

The only reason the wife was considering a Forester in the GX/4Runner/Pilot/Sienna debate was to get a real transmission back. We both miss driving enjoyable trucks.

    This and that
The wheelbase on that tundra. Gotta be like the length of a dcsb taco.
Some rando guy was asking me about my truck one day and why I got a manual, and I said, hasn’t every gutless Toyota you’ve owned been a manual?

I’ve never owned a SB truck, couldn’t do it! Every 1/2T to 1T we’ve ever owned has had an 8’ bed.

I really wish our ‘99 4Runner was a manual. We did a ton of really long trips, 30 days all over the western US in it, and merging on the interstate, keeping up with traffic, and mountain passes were all a pin it and pray situation. A manual would have been a life saver! We also would have kept it forever had it been a manual ha.

My sports cars have always been MT. It'd be stupid to have an auto in one of those. My truck and DD are autos. I'd never want an MT in those. Each suits it's application. But I do enjoy the spirited debate.

I care not what others do or drive, but those people drive automakers to not make MT vehicles. So I care.

Is what it is. At a certain point I'll just start buying used or fully go electric. I trust in the free market to decide what's best.

There is enough demand that standard is offered on the 4th Gen Tacomas.

They are hard to come by but are Gems to those who so desire them.
