    I'm I over thinking this?

Back in October I headed north from Ft. Lauderdale to the hills of Logan / Man, WV to visit kin. Now, up to this point, the only part failure on my truck was the left from strut. FL to WV is a straight drive up until the point when you reach the base of the Appalachian Mountains. At this point, I spent 5 hours at speeds less than 45 mph makes constant turns of the steering wheel. Basically, the roads are nothing but switchbacks and hairpin turns. On the way home, another 5 hours of crazy switchbacks and hairpin turns.

On 11-05-19; at 19,700 miles I crawled under the truck to change the oil. Immediately, I noticed the driver's side black rubber boot between the rack and tie rod was soaked with the steering fluid. A review of the steering fluid reservoir proved to be way low.

On 11-12-19 the steering rack was replaced under warranty.

Is it possible that 7 days of constant turns of the steering wheel over heated the rack and damaged a seal? Or, maybe it was just a bad rack?

Just a bad rack. The racks aren’t the best on these trucks anyways. They all tend to leak after a few years.

    X2 Bad rack.
Take the same route again with the new rack. Nothing will happen.

Larger tires will put more strain on the OEM gear assembly. A brand new OEM Toyota steering rack will run you around $625.

Next October I'll put the new rack to the test. Thanks for the input, I'll mark this up to a faulty part.
