So I have been dealing with this vibration from 65-85mph that seems to variable on how bad it is. It's been going on for about 4 months now. I have taken it in too the Toyota dealer 3 times now and every time they blame the tires and have balanced them. Funny thing is I took it straight to another place after the last time because it was still there when I left and paid for a balance and road force. The guys let me go back and watch so I could take pictures for proof and all the tires were out of balance and once finished the road force numbers were within spec. However once I drove it on a 3 hour trip the vibration was still clearly there so here I am at the Toyota dealer dropping it off again and they are still blaming the tires and haven't even thrown in the idea of anything else. Granted they are aftermarket AT tires but they have been on the truck since I drove it off the lot in October. The second issue I'm having is them giving me BS on replacing the gasket for the rear diff because it's not "leaking " which they have addressed twice and today will be the third time. The first they cleaned it off and tightened down the bolts, the second the said there were no wet spots on it and were going to have to show a Toyota rep (showing them what i don't know since they said it was nothing) and now he says they will have to open a case. All I wanted done was the gasket replaced. I've been holding off on contacting Toyota because I know the dealers get it handed to them for poor customer reviews but it's about to go there today if the shop manager tries to feed me BS.
Any ideas thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Being nice is for suckers in this case. I'm not saying be a dick, but do what you gotta do to fix your truck. Be assertive and explore your options to the fullest.

Is your diff actually leaking? Are there visible wet spots?

For your vibrations, are you lifted at all? Stock suspension? Stock wheels?

It had 2 or 3 wet spots on it the first time. I wish I would of taken pictures before they cleaned it but I didn't. After a couple months I checked it again and there was clearly another wet spot on the casing but not like the first time. Am I worried about it being low... No but once a leak starts it's not going to get any better without the proper fix. For the vibration everything is stock but the tires. I'm wanting to get a lift put on but I'm trying to get this fixed before I touch anything with the suspension.

I guess another question would be will having the tires road force balanced determine if one of the tires is bad?

The following recent thread seems to think it is the tires themselves, not the balancing:

I too have had vibrations/shake since driving off the lot almost 6 months ago, the truck now has 8,000 miles all of which it's had a vibration/shake. Have taken it to the Dealer multiple times where, they too, blame the wheels/tires, even though I took it to them with the factory wheels/tires on it (still does the same thing) and they claim they couldn't feel anything. I've had my aftermarket wheels/tires balanced twice, and my stock wheels/tires once.

Here is a thread I made with videos of my issues: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/odd-vibrations-2017-tacoma-trd-sport.496393/

You should see if the dealer would throw on a set of OEM tires off of another truck on the lot. Then you can determine if it's the tires or not.

That's my next step after I talk to this manager. Chances are they will probably say no since they are aftermarket tires but hopefully they work with me more than this other guy has been. I've already had to put him in his place in front of 6 other customers for trying to feed me BS.

It sounds like your having almost the exact same issue as I am! As of right now I'm waiting to talk to the service manager to see what they say and to see if they are more helpful than the guy I'm dealing with. When I did a search for vibrations I didn't really find anything related too mine but yours is pretty much spot on. So I take it still no luck with solving yours?

No luck as of yet, I'm planning to get my aftermarket wheels & tires balanced for the 3rd time, but this time have the Dealership do it so they can't blame them anymore.

Another member on here had the identical issue I have, even worse then mine, and the Dealership found one of his balancing weights on his driveshaft fell off. Last we spoke, they we replacing the shaft but never heard back on if this corrected the issue.

Yea it's just turning into a pain and tired of just going in circles with them. I suggested the driveshaft and asked why they want to just go straight to the tires when I've had them balanced 4 times and road forced. If they would just let me back there I could probably figure it out myself faster than them. I wanted a brand new truck for the warranty and so far it's just been a huge pain in the ass to have them honor it. If it's the tires that's fine but it takes them zero time to throw on a set from one of the 10 trucks in the lot and actually solve it instead of being aholes

I've had my tires (AT3W) road force balanced and they will still have some minor shake at speed. The stock goodyears didn't do this so it's certainly possible that tires, despite being road force balanced, will have some vibrations.

That being said there are other rotating forces at play...axles could be out of balance. Wheels could be bent. Driveshaft could be out of balance or ujoints defective/worn. Needle bearing could be a problem.

Do you feel the vibe with acceleration and deceleration between 65 and 85 ?

Unfortunately I never drove it but for a test drive with the stock tires. I almost feel like it's something to do with the suspension and not dampening the road conditions like it should. Almost like the ass end is to light or something because it's always there but changes with the road. If it was the tires I'd think that it wouldn't be better on some sections of the road with the same speeds but since they haven't tried another set yet I don't know for sure but I know I can't take it anymore after driving 3 hours it gets super annoying!

It's there no matter what. I've even tried shifting into gears 4 and 5 to see if that helped and it didn't.

What do you have PSI set to? I've found AT tires ride a hell of a lot better if you reduce PSI from the stock tires. The goodyears, while being AT, rode great with 35ish PSI. These AT3Ws act like you're describing with anything over 30 psi. They get bouncy and every impact seems to jolt the truck. Multiply all those jolts for every road imperfection and you get some additional vibration/harshness that is undesirable.

If it changes with the road, it's almost certainly tires.

I was running 32 but noticed they were clean on the outside like they were low in pressure so I had the last place put 36 in them but I didn't notice a difference in the vibration

Clean on the outside indicates too high of pressure...I have mine at 28 right now which seems about perfect for mine. I'm betting you were too high even at 32.

Try going lower...though I'm skeptical if it will make that much of a difference.

I guess I'll give it a try once I leave here if they don't find anything.
