I’ll start by saying that I have no interest in trading/selling my truck anytime soon. I do trade frequently but I really do love this thing and the only think that interests me in a year or so is a very specific spec 4Runner during their last (assumed) year of sale in its current generation. I also know the current used car market is upside down, so for this purpose let’s assume it’s a year or so from now that I decide to make a change.

My truck: 2021 DBSB Off Road 4x4 manual transmission.

Barcelona Red over black leather. Fully loaded (LED headlights, leather, sunroof, navigation, blind spot warning, etc….all options except surround view camera) with Bakflip MX4 bed cover installed at port. Let’s assume 12-15k miles on the odometer in a year or so.

Mods with retail price listing (including install)

*TRD Lift Kit (includes oem Pro gril) $2500

*TRD “Sema” 17” Matte Black Wheels with Michelin LTX tires $2000 approx

    *TRD Pro taillights (OEM) $300

*OEM Black 5” Tube Side Steps $500

*Xpel XR ceramic tint all around $500

*Xpel Ultimate Paint Protection Film on front bumper, headlights, and mirrors $500

*Full paint polishing and professional ceramic coating $1000

*The usual OEM accessories everyone buys - bed mat, mud guards, rubber floor mats, led bed lights, etc.

MSRP (which I paid since it was an ordered vehicle to my specs) was $42,813

Again, I’m posting this more of a fun discussion versus I need an accurate figure so I can trade/sell it in 5 min. I also know that a private party sale would be more money for me so if that day comes, I’ll try that route first. All of my prior vehicles (sport sedans) would get killed in value if sold/traded with mods but I’ve read that don’t necessarily penalize a truck like the Tacoma.

Way too many factors right now that can impact the value in a year from now. Ask again in 11 months.

It is a manual transmission and that will help with a higher resale value in the long term.

You have it looking gorgeous and perky, just like a women fresh out of a day spa.
Don’t even think of selling that beauty anytime soon.

I appreciate that! My ideal world is where I keep my truck and the wife gets a 4Runner; this is a work in progress as she prefers the RAV4.

$6k in mods is hard to get anything from even with private buyers.

It's hard to sell to a lot of individuals because they can't get the constructive financing that a dealer can offer.
A dealer is going to try to beat you out of anything you spent on mods.
That said, it's a crazy world in auto sales right now. Unimaginable trades are being made, both good and bad.

True. The only thing I feel would increase the value is the TRD Lift Kit. The rest of it just adds to it being in excellent condition and looking great.

There is no "upgrade" from that truck -- try to find something else that looks that good and with a manual transmission.
Keep it nice -- keep it forever

As a dealer, I always pay a bit more for the right vehicle and something with some eyeball... on trucks that's usually from wheels and a minor lift/level kit. On sports cars it's normally a tasteful exhaust, manual transmission or maybe a nice stripe package (depending on the car).

Good point. I feel this color with the lift/Pro grill definitely has a lot of curb appeal. Plus a Toyota could warranty/stand behind the lift.

I hope you didn't pay those prices for the mods, and since they are now used parts the price is not even worth half now. Should help sell the truck and now is the time to sell if you want to try and get some of your money back. I buy and sell cars and trucks, doing it for almost 30 years.

Curious with your 30 years experience, what would you value that vehicle at given the current market from a trade in perspective? Lets say the OP was looking to trade up into a Tundra? Throwing numbers to help for conversations sake, lets say the OP bought this January 2021 and currently is running just shy of 7k miles.

Without a booking it out on black book or NADA I say about $42k to $44k retail. If I was buying it and selling it within a week I need to buy it at $38 to $40k. Not a lot to make in today's market and now a days the independent dealer is a thing of the past. Buy here and pay here lots and cash for clunkers killed the used car market.

Id say that's pretty fair - It'd be difficult for the Op to make nearly any $ back from the extras put into it though, however given the current market it makes sense!

Mods means more than KBB if I'm a buyer. KBB is an Ass joke. Nobody pays or loans money of Kelly. Bought 180 cars in a year and a half and never looked at Kelly. Banks loan on NADA and I buy off Black book or NADA.

    Like, so many.
I would probably not buy a Tacoma as modded as mine is. I know where the work was done and the quality of the components, but there's no way a buyer could know all of that.

If you sell thru Caravana/Carmax/Vroom you will probably get an offer less than a stock vehicle, they will penalize for any mods, Private party would be your best bet or possibly a dealer.
