I don't think the rear of a DC is that bad. I wouldn't want to go cross country back there but it's adequate for most adults over shorter distances.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Really? I've rode in an AC for about 10 minutes and was freaking the hell out. But I'm claustrophobic real bad.

    What? o_O

I don't own a dog. If someone who owned a dog wanted me to transport a dog it would go in the bed.

That isn't mistreatment. Jesus Christ. What planet have some people grown up on?

Excuse me for wanting to take care of a machine I busted my ass to pay for.

I surely hope you are vegan if you are going to waist my time arguing this topic.

Just so you folks know it is technically illegal for your Dog to ride in the bed. Crated or not.

Properly crated is key. My dog tumbles in the backseat whenever I take a turn or have to hit the brakes hard. In a Tacoma back seat as high as it is with folded down seat back, it is hazardous to him and me trying to drive.

I just lost our 11 year old Lab to cancer but I can tell you our dogs are like our children. We intend to adopt another Lab soon and the DC option is the way to go for us. I car likely makes more sense but......

Surely a dog cares or they wouldn't choose the couch or the bed over the floor.

I don't have a dog but one is going to come in the future most likely. The rest of my family however all has them. My aunt has a couple of duck trollers that she brings around with her in B.C. To the beach and their cottage.

She kept having concerns with their safety in regards to hanging out he windows (excessively far) and the ever so looming question of what if I get hit while they are in there. I am only chiming in because I agree with the people who have said the best place for your dog is in a crate and in the bed purely because it's the safest place for them and you. I have unfortunately seen where people get in an accident and their dog has been killed or seriously injured themselves and the occupants because they went flying inside the car / cab.

So she found these pet harness (linked below) that you could clip them into the seat beats and they still had movement so they can act like dogs but are secured and safer then if left to free roam in the car. These dogs are not the best trained either.

It's never your careful driving you have to worry about but the idiot who doesn't pay attention and slams into you.

Anyways, with a seat down and covered and the dog properly strapped in I felt an access can was more then enough space for a larger dog that's semi trained to enjoy their ride.

The upside to an DC is the obvious windows down so they can enjoy the wind in their hair.

The AC, well put the dog up front lock it in and put your significant other in the back. ;)

[IMG] absolutely nothing wrong with hauling a dog inside the truck if properly restrained...head out the window, there's always the rare incident of of a foreign object inhaled or lodged in an eye, dogs love it but it could still happen,in my truck bed there's always a (size) 500 and 400 crate since I get my dogs out everyday...back seat is full of training gear and assorted junk,so there's no room for a dog anyway,i can strap then in, in numerous ways and I feel it's basically secure.i've seen car interiors completely destroyed in no time by a frustrated dog...happy for the folks that have calm, reliable dogs that don't tare stuff...I wouldn't trust neither of my two wackos in the cab for any length of time..some dogs are sensitive to various types of carpet...I never put any type of carpet as a resting place for dogs...rubber mats or cedar slats are much better.

I have an 85lb golden retriever. He's an incredibly good dog. Never barks. Never chews on things. I can have a party and put chips on the coffee table, tell him to leave them alone once when I set them down, and he won't touch them all day, even if he's all by himself in the room.

I would never even consider putting him in the bed of the truck, but in my particular case, I know he won't (purposefully) do anything to damage the truck. I simply throw a towel on the seats and he lays down. He generally just stays there or sits up periodically on longer car rides (he doesn't particularly enjoy riding in a car unless we have the cruise control set on a very smooth, straight highway).

Everyone is different and everyone's dog is different, so there will be different needs - but basically my dog goes in any of our cars (M5, Prius, G35, Passat, Ram, my 2nd Gen when I had it - 3rd gen shopping now) with the same concept - throw a towel down, on he goes (with a harness attached to a seatbelt).

In any case, if your dog is inside the truck - I would advise you secure him somehow with a harness or whatever. If not for his safety then for yours. A dog bouncing around inside your cab in a crash can injure or kill you.

I had an AC and it was a pain with 2 dogs...they werent comfortable and always moving.

Just took the 2 for a ride in my 16 DC and they loved it. Both picked a window and sat with their heads hanging in the wind.
