Has anyone here considered one? I know it’s not apples to apples to a taco, but what are your general impressions ? My main concern is reliability. I’ve frequented a few Raptor forums and there have been rear main seal leaks and transmission issues with the Gen2. Several TSBs too.

Other than that, I love the capabilities and additional cabin space. Would suck to not be able to hit jeep trails, but there are open areas at some of the Eastern PA parks.

I ask because I am considering trading in my Pro early next year. Was hoping to hear if anyone has more info on them.

Maybe ask some Raptor owners about their experience with the truck, on the Raptor forums....

I’m hoping to catch people on here that considered a Raptor at one point. Or have previously owned one. There were a few former owners on the 4runner forum

I come from a Ford family and we've had 2 ecoboost engines now (my mom's former DD 2013 explorer) and my Dads current 2018 Raptor. We've also had a 2014 6.2L Raptor (Dad's prior truck). All of them have been flawless except Sync in my mom's 2013 needed to be replaced (one of the first generations of ford's system). I wouldn't read too much into what you are seeing in the forums as just like here, people will only speak up when there's a problem / complaint. If I had the dime I would have copied Dad and be DD'ing a Gen 2 Raptor, gas mileage is similar to my turd gen and its just such a better truck in so many ways, his has been flawless, and fit and finish is similar to my Tacos, now my mom's JLU's fit and finish...

You'll catch a lot more on a Raptor forum, where everyone owns one.
Having first hand knowledge, they'll also almost certainly have better input over those that have only considered ownership.

Thanks. You’re right, it’s mostly people with issues that post on the forums. Glad to hear your Dad has had no issues.

These are some of the posts that had me worried
    https://www.fordraptorforum.com/threads/ugh-oil-leak.53382/#post-1119375

    https://www.fordraptor2.com/threads/recurrent-oil-leak-plastic-oil-pan.6587/

There are more and transmission related posts too. I had a 10 year old , 160k mileage 4Runner that I beat the piss out of. It had zero issues and zero leaks.

No doubt the Raptor is bad @$$. Just trying to gather enough info

Cool man, I'll take a look, but I can tell you our Ford's have been every bit as reliable as my Taco's. My brother is still driving my mom's 2010 explorer and its only needed routine stuff and a few O2 sensors and he treats it like crap.

You are gonna have a hard time comparing anything to a 4runner, even the turd gens are not on the same page as far as QDR, nothing really in the new market will be quite as dependable and be abused as much besides a new T4R and perhaps a Tundy. My Dad does actually use his raptor when we wander outside IL and have had it on a few trails in UT, AZ, CO and CA with no issues.

I'm guessing the grass is no greener. But yeah bigger truck and more power. I had Ford's. I'll stick to Toyota. For every guy that has had 5 Ford's with no problems there's ten with one and nothing but trouble.

I considered when I bought the Taco....Raptor won’t fit in the garage, so Taco wins.

The alluring thing about the Raptor is the power. Supercharged taco is the best of both worlds.

It's a Ford. Spend the 60K and hope it works out. Personally I'd wait until the Tundra comes out with the turbo option - next year I think. Apples to apples on the Raptor to Tundra when the Tundra has turbo - Tundra all the way. As for my Taco - I'm waiting on @OVTune to release the SC to go with the tune.

I did a good test drive in a 2019 Raptor SuperCab before I purchased my Pro and it was awesome. The ride on pavement was simply amazing, I really liked it. The truck does not drive as wide as it looks, it was very easy to navigate. The one I test drove was a base model with only one option, a factory spray in bed liner. The MSRP was just under $56k.

I would have entertained purchasing one but the base model that I drove had cloth seats, no navigation, a tiny 4” screen, etc. You have to spend around $75k to get one with all of the goodies.

This. Tacoma is the poorman’s or financially fiscal man’s Raptor. Willing to bet if the Raptor was priced the same (or at least closer) many of the naysayers would be driving them. I probably would be too.

Edit: I may not though, I also have an F350 to pull our RV, so I doubt I would have got another large daily. Tacoma is perfect for what it is.

I think the SuperCab is more attractive than the Crew Cab version. It am sure the lighter weight and shorter wheelbase of the SuperCab does better off-road as well.

I looked at them and test drove a couple. The Raptor is absolutely awesome and if not for the price I would have bought one. It’s just impractical and overly expensive for my needs but I still drool over them when I see them. A supercharged Tacoma still won’t be in the same universe as a Raptor lol. It’s not just about the power as it is the whole package. As far as problems, they’re no more problematic than most any other full size truck out there. Some leaks and stuff have been reported, but same goes for our Tacomas. The drivetrain is pretty bulletproof. My best friend has a Raptor and he has had less problems with it than I’ve had with my Tacoma as far as warranty work. The dealers are what worry me with Ford, they seem to deny more warranty work than any other brand I’ve had and Ford seems to kick the can down the road with known problems. I’d ask somewhere else because the 3rd gen section of this forum is most definitely the worst place on the internet to get coherent, unbiased opinions about anything non Toyota.
