i am new to the whole Tacoma scene. A month and a half ago I decided to buy a 2015 Tacoma TSS 4x2. I will say I didn't do my research before hand and bought it based on its looks. First time I took it to the beach, I kept getting stuck! Come to find out I have to press the VSS button to turn it off. So I am anxious to go back and see if it can handle the sand a bit. I keep seeing the TRD version and beginning to think I made a bad choice don't know if TRD and TSS are synonymous or completely different capabilities.

TRD's come in 2wd (prerunners) and 4wd. Trd Sport has standard 4wd system, TRD Offroad adds rear locker and ATRAC to the menu. I am sure there is more to it, that is my short and sweet basic version

I got AutoLSD and ATRAC. Honestly I think I just don't know how drive it yet. I have had Acuras since 2002. I finally decided to become a man lol. I just don't see too much on TSS.

Your truck is a 2nd gen, you posted in the 3rd gen section. I've reported your post to the moderators as being placed in the wrong sub-forum. Please don't take it personally.

Swimmer I wrote it in my diary. First day on this community and this?! I am just kidding man. It's all good. It's how it keeps the forums in order and with accurate info. New to the Tacoma world and honestly thought this was a 3rd gen. Thanks for the clarification.

If you want to play around in the sand you will need a 4X4, really no way around it dude.

Yeah I was thinking that going fishing every other week with a 4x2 was sufficient. Sand here at south padre island is so fine and lose, probably isn't going to cut it. Should have made the extra expense.

So then tell me, seriously, what is the best way to let someone know they have posted in the wrong forum? Or is it better to let the thread sit in the wrong place, making everything disorganized and also limiting the responses the OP gets because he's not getting the exposure to the correct audience?

I have some buddies that do "Okay" in the sand with their 4x2. They have 33x12.5 tires and they have to air down a lot but they don't usually get stuck. As others have said, if you want to play in the sand with confidence you really should consider trading for a 4x4 but you could do alright with a lift and big (wide) tires

Lowering your tire pressure for a wider foot print, and more aggressive tires will help in the sand. However, you really should have 4WD for use in the fine and loose sand, there is no comparison. You can disable the traction control as you mentioned, but that may just dig you a deeper hole.

theres 100,000 members on here. do you really think 1 mis-placed thread is a big deal when 100 other threads will be posted in the next 2 hours and will be completely wrong as well?

Does anyone know if the TSS package is available in 4x4. I have never seen one. They have all been prerunner's. With that said I love the looks of the 2012+ DCSB TSS in MGM

Well sweet. Might be my next taco. Everyone in this area has prerunner's. A 4x4 is rare here on the coast.

    For sure!

I was living in Denver when I bought my truck last year, and it was a dime-a-dozen TRD 4x4; no Prerunners up there. When I moved back home to Louisiana, I felt special :bananadance: because a TRD Off-Road 4x4 is a rare site to see. It's mostly TSS models, and most of them are Prerunners.

My brother got his truck a few months after me (in Louisiana). He wanted a TRD Sport in Pyrite Mica, and he couldn't find anything close anywhere! He ended up getting a black T-Force 4x4, and he was still waiting over a month before it came in.

The TSS is just an appearance package for Gulf States Toyota. They do come in 4x4, I've got a '13 DCSB MGM TSS 4x4.
