Is what it is bub. Im not worried about the inconvenience of a safety system. Its the fact that something other than myself has control of whether or not i'm allowed to drive my vehicle and in the end the effects unfortunately are going to be minimal on the real issue, also a touch of paranoia. You are unfortunately are proof of that. 4th dui, so one past a felony which is a big deal, If the man had a license he would have had a breathalyzer in his vehicle which didnt stop him, if he didnt have a license then its obvious consequences didnt matter to him.

Nah, Charlie has a good abs experience. The pedal pulsated but didn't leave him ranting about sliding through a stop sign or off the road so it did what it was meant to even if it is a weird driver experience.

Nothing worse than bad ABS kicking on and sending you spinning into the ditch or intersection when you probably would have been fine with normal brakes lol

No, I do know. People who drive drunk are criminals, criminals are well known for bypassing or breaking the law. This system will not stop any drunk drivers and it will add cost and inconvenience to law abiding citizens who don't drive drunk.

Most motorcycles made before 2010 don't have ABS / optional. My 06 Honda CBR600RR had no ABS / Traction control. If you were to grab a hand full of front brake or slammed rear, you were sliding and eating pavement. Had to be very careful about knowing how much brake I could get away with without locking up wheels.

Well drunk drivers don't have control of reasonable thought to not drive impaired so a safety system may have to do it.

So you know for a fact that a system that isn't even out yet won't work? Wow you have some amazing powers to see the future.

Some people have suggested they may implement a passive system that detects swerving and bobbing/weaving in order to determine if a driver is under the influence as opposed to an active system such as a breathalyzer to start the vehicle. This system would utilize AI and be fed driving patterns of drunk drivers to learn similar patterns (i.e similar bobbing and weaving / erratic driving behavior)

In a perfect world id agree with you. But ive also seen a coworker with a breathalyzer in his vehicle buy a second vehicle JUST so he didn't have to use the breathalyzer. Community policing and being vigilante are the only real options that seem to work.

That seems after the fact. You can back out of a driveway impaired and kill someone in front of your house.

I know it won't work, the problem is is with the people not cars. Even if a man has his license pulled he can still by a used car in a private sale and run people over. This system won't stop it. People can copy your key fob from acrossed the street and drive your truck away, and you think this thing won't be hacked or bypassed by criminals in less than a week after its out?

100% agree. Also, imagine a distracted driver just bobbing and weaving and then randomly having the vehicle stop itself and contact local authorities.

What if this system saves 1 life. Is it worth it? you assume everyone will hack this.

My speculation would be remotely shutdown the vehicle / force stop it and then contact local authorities.

WHo said this will contact the police. It will most likely not. Just it won't allow the car to start.
