100% of all car manufactures will not recall a part that would save just one life.

That's my speculation, as this passive system that is theorized would have to already allow the driver to start the vehicle and operate it for a brief period of time to recognize they are under the influence. There has also been speculation of them utilizing interior cameras to analyze body movement / facial movement as well for impairment detection.

Oh I get it. Im just saying one life is not a measure of effectiveness for a safety feature.

The scenario is that I need to drive to the hospital, lets say a chopped my leg open with a chainsaw, I live in the woods and waiting for an ambulance is death sentence. I get in my car to start driving as best I can, but the cars onboard AI can't tell the difference between my wounded, shocked state and someone drunk so it won't start. Now I'm dead. If it saves one life right?

I was hit twice on my motorcycle by texting drivers. And rear-ended 1 time while driving a taxi with customers in the car by a guy texting. This drives me up the wall. And I swear people aren't getting pulled over enough for this. I typically drive 12hrs a day. And plenty of idiots staring at their phones. :bananadead:

I guess my train of thought is if the car is now being programmed to keep you from breaking a particular law, why wouldn't it continue from that point? Receiving citations in the mail for speeding, or not using your signal when changing lanes, also a touch a paranoia why with all this new self driving technology wouldnt it just lock the doors and drive someone straight to a police station? Definitely doable these days.

I'll order my 2026+ vehicle with out this system. Thanks to the never ending micro prosser shortage, this technology will be an option. Bonus I will save $50.00 on my order.

Yesterday a school bus tried to hit me head on on a two lane highway. I had to break and drive into the overgrowth to my right. It wasn't really that much of a problem, the bus was a atleast a foot over the line into my lane. Looked like a decommissioned bus, so I don't think their insurance would have been that good to deal with.

Today I saw an officer lose a car they were trying to pull over. No idea what the circumstances were for the stop, but I don't think it was a mere traffic violation. The car didn't look like it was going to stop, so I went the same direction to see what was transpiring, and the officers car was up the road by itself.

In that case we should just ban cars AND alcohol and save way more than one life. The "just one life" argument is a slippery slope.

It’s a 2,700 page bill. “I feel like” some people could be forgiven for not knowing everything that’s in it.

Our legislative system results in many things unrelated to the bill’s title or main purpose being slid in there in order to get the required votes to pass. I doubt most of the legislators even know everything that’s in there. The only people who have read every word are the overworked and sleepless aides.

I read a shit ton of news on the daily and this is the first I’ve heard on this topic.

See that I totally agree with you on, plus the fact that if this was the 4th then how was this person driving without an interlock device? I'm all for those with that history having to have them.

That's just it, this to me seems to border on proving innocence when the individual hasn't that history of needing to.

Which is all too awful..so sorry man.

I got a checkpoint 6 years ago on Black Friday. Was almost funny in a way. My brother in law and I (both sober by choice and not just that night) were coming home from seeing FFDP. Did the standard stop when asked, rolled down window and turned my dome light on. The officer was polite and said we're just checking for drunk drivers tonight, holiday weekend and all. I said politely "good news, you found 2 sober guys tonight coming home from a concert"..turns out he was a fan of FFDP as well.

Come to think of it, I was in a parking lot waiting to meet my cousin to see Lamb of God and a bicycle officer came to my window asking me what's up with the bag of weed in my cupholder. I politely said "I haven't touched the stuff in my life honestly but you can take a look in the cupholder if you want". I leaned over and opened the passenger door. He picked up a plastic ziplock style bag which contained a dartboard mounting bracket.

In MA (guessing other states that use that lockout) if you are required to have it, your license is invalid if you drive any vehicle without one even if just to the next street. Getting caught is jail time.

Can't be shut down/forced, hazard to others in the vicinity.

This is a sore subject for me as well, especially when at night you can see the light from the phone and these asses don't care.
