I'd like to see what people think about this. How hard would it be. How expensive. Who wants to do it on their truck. So... Discuss.

if you are gonna do the 2UZ... may as well do the much better 1UR .... 100cc smaller.... but more hp and more torque... and no timing belt.

I just figured since Toyota put the 2uz in the 4th gen 4Runner it would be a fairly simple swap into a second gen Tacoma. 1UR sounds intriguing.

Wow. The 1UR is a lot more expensive than the 2UZ at first looks.

We as of 4 hours ago my 2tr is hydrolocked. Might be replacing it before I wanted to. Now I really need quick, easy, and cheap.

I work as a machinist at an engine shop that specializes in custom LS builds. I have no idea what the cost for a Toyota/lexus swap would be, but if anyone is thinking ls swap, it wouldn't be hard as long as then engine fits physically. And the holley EFI makes the programming a snap.

2JZ would be awesome. I'd love to do that. But looks like the possibility of my doing an engine swap just got much more real and much sooner. So it's going to have to be cheap and easy. Something I can do with a few friends in a few weeks. 2UZ swap can't be that hard

Did you happen to find more on this?
I am planning on the 1urfe swap from a lexus LS460 for the horsepower and using JBA headers and a standalone ECU
If money was a concern you would want the 2005 VVTI 2uzfe version for anyone else concerning themselves with this swap. It is the highest hp and efficiency version and is available in the gx470, Tundra 4runner and a few cars had a different model.

It will bolt up to the automatic as they used the same transmission and if you feel like it you can confirm that the torque convertor changed.
When I searched the 2uzfe from the 2005 it was using the identical transmission as the 2005-2012 tacoma including the tc.

Wish I knew more right now but I will be posting an update to my build sheet once the motor and new shocks are final.

hope this finds you have tried already.
