Past few day media has gone from sympathy ,to cutting them for various past problems. Even all that may be true, id like to give some of the media a life preserver and tell em to float in the next 30' tsunami.

I dunno what I think about the situation with the reactors. If they continue to use salt water, they'll be irrevocably damaged. If they don't, who knows how big the hole will be?

What's fascinating is the reaction has been that even if the reactors do meltdown, there will be no real ill effect. I don't believe that for a minute. if you look at the fallout map, the Aleutian Islands and possibly ANC will receive some amount of radiation in the form of fallout--since the Bearing Sea is a fishery; I'd think the fishery would suffer some damage. I don't know what a safe level is but I'm sure those numbers are probably not safe :) Of course the west coast gets it too. I don't know what 750 means either (with regard to "normal").

I understand the heartbreak the media portrays about stuff like this, but to be honest I don't think I could truely comprehend whats going on over there even if I tried. I'm sitting in my nice warm house on my comfy couch watching facts blurb across the internet. I feel for them, but I don't think I could even begin to understand what they're actually going through as a people.

And as for this whole nuke situation, I'm kinda taking a personal intrest in it, both as an occupational thing cause this is the kinda stuff i work with. And because I have plane tickets booked to go their on April 6 from a couple months ago :s

Any exposure over 500 rads is pretty much un survivable. However, that map, I dont think is very accurate. Radiation decays very rapidly in the atmosphere.

750 rads is nearly 99% + lethal, and that fallout map was just a load of bull, it was on snopes.

A lot will have to do with the jet stream, the leaks have been small and slow for now, maximizing dispersal. As far as Rads, i dunno, Navy used micro curies when i was in , rem might still be around. Im just not familiar with rads.
